We were honored to welcome California State Senator Senator Aisha Wahab to our clinic last week for an important conversation on the role community health centers play in delivering comprehensive, integrated care.

From addressing homelessness and behavioral health needs to discussing strategies for funding, mental health partnerships, and outreach, Senator Wahab’s insights were invaluable. With Medicaid patients making up the vast majority of our patient community, her support is vital as we navigate funding challenges and continue providing high-quality care for all.

Thank you, Senator Wahab, for your time, your guidance, and your commitment to strengthening community health.

Our first-ever WIC-Travaganza brought together over 300 families to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month!

Families enjoyed a full day of fun and resources, from our photo booth, face-painting, balloon-twisting, and kids’ story time to raffle prizes like bikes, scooters, wellness baskets, and more.

Alongside these activities were our amazing tabling partners, who shared breastfeeding, family health, and parenting resources, making the event such a success. We could not have imagined a better way to celebrate the strength and commitment of our WIC families and the value of breastfeeding and early nutrition in setting a foundation for lifelong health.

Thank you to our partners for helping us empower, support, and celebrate families in our community, including: ACPHD, Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA), First 5 Alameda County, Washington Health, Fremont Fire Department, California WIC Association, BrightLife Kids, 4Cs of Alameda County, Fremont Bank, Hively, and Kidango.

Our Story

Over 41 Years of Service to the Community

During a time when our nation was trying to find ways to reduce health disparities in migrant communities and address the growing poverty rate, members of the Tri-Cities region banned together to address the great need for health services in the local community. Three entities, Tri-City Family Planning, the Brown Berets, and Union City Health Committee, came together to establish the first clinic in the area: the Tiburcio Vasquez Medical Clinic.

What’s in a name?

TVHC’s founders wanted to choose a name that evoked a sense of pride and fortitude in their community, and what better choice than the heroic character who—legend has it—defied authority in order to aid the downtrodden Californios?
