Last Monday, Castro Valley DeMolay and several of our amazing community volunteers helped us celebrate the holiday season in style! They rolled up their sleeves and got 25 trees around campus pulled out, fluffed, and lit…ready for our residents and staff to work their decorating magic!

A huge thank, you to our community volunteers for always showing up, sparkling bright, and spreading holiday cheer across the Masonic Homes!

We kicked off the holiday season with our Mini Decorating Social, and it was such a fun, cozy afternoon for our residents! Everyone got a tabletop tree and headed over to our little ornament “buffet” filled with bows, garlands, lights, and all kinds of cute decorations.

With eggnog in hand and cookies on the table, residents decorated their trees while catching up, sharing stories, and just enjoying each other’s company. Some went classic, some went colorful, and some went all-out creative—every tree turned out beautiful in its own way. Now the halls (and apartments) are looking a whole lot more festive.

Happy Holidays from all of us at the Masonic Homes!

The Masonic Homes, Covina campus came alive with music and laughter last week as G*T Jose Rizal No. 882, led by lodge master Angelo Alano, returned for the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting celebration!

The G*T Carolers once again filled the halls with heartfelt harmonies, spreading joy among residents, guests, and members. Joining the festivities were Grand Master Garrett S. Chan, several Grand Lodge officers, and members of the community who came together to share in the holiday spirit.

This year, Siminoff Daylight No. 850, located inside the Union City campus, has had the privilege of presenting seven Golden Veteran Awards—a testament to the enduring commitment and exemplary service of our members.

Recently, we were honored to celebrate two remarkable brothers—James Leggate and James Spence of Golden Rule Lodge No. 479—who each received the Golden Veteran Award, recognizing more than 50 years of faithful service to our fraternity.

This week, we hosted our Resident Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, a heartfelt celebration honoring the more than 50 residents who generously give their time, skills, and compassion to support our community. From lending a hand in the café and general store, to organizing bingo, to sharing their creative talents, our resident volunteers make a meaningful difference every single day.

Guests enjoyed lunch catered by Don Julio’s Taqueria and each volunteer was recognized with a token of appreciation and sincere thanks for their kindness, dedication, and community spirit. To all our incredible volunteers: thank you. Your service strengthens the sense of family and connection that makes the Masonic Homes so special!

At our Wollenberg community, residents love giving back, whether it’s to the broader community or to our dedicated leadership teams. For this month’s service project, our residents created and gifted their own calming essential-oil blends using lavender, lemon, witch hazel, and jojoba oil—crafting a soothing mix designed to bring peace and tranquility. We hope everyone likes them!

With an incredible 48 years of experience, no one brings more heart to creativity than Kathy our ceramics instructor. For Kathy, the ceramics studio is truly her second home. Surrounded by glazes, molds, brushes, and the hum of the kiln, she teaches with the same passion that drew her to the craft decades ago.

27 years ago, a lucky referral brought her to the Masonic Homes, where she later earned her formal state certification in ceramics. Through art, she helps residents express themselves and nearly five decades later, Kathy still isn’t slowing down. The ceramics room continues to buzz with creativity, laughter, and the warmth she’s built from earth, fire, and heart!

Once a month, the Ohlone Humane Society visits the Pavilion at the Masonic Homes with a special visit from Patty and her amazing therapy dog, Clay! Residents light up as Patty and her daughter showcase Clay’s fun tricks, and of course, everyone loves rewarding him with plenty of treats.

These visits never fail to bring smiles and positive energy to our community!

It’s always an honor to receive an award for service to Masonry—but receiving two in one evening is truly extraordinary. That’s exactly what happened when Worshipful Jon Gray, past master of Siminoff Daylight Lodge No. 850, was celebrated in a very special way.

During the Union City Social Club dinner, Adam Hanin, Inspector of the 319th Masonic District, presented Jon with the in recognition of his 50 years of service to this lodge. But the biggest moment of the night was when members of Jon’s home lodge—Enterprise No. 70 in Yuba City—arrived to present him with the for his many years of dedicated service to their lodge and to Masonry as a whole!
