Last week, members and staff celebrated the month of May with plenty of smiles, laughter, and joyful moments together.

As part of America's 250th Celebrations - Come hear the stories of the frontline soldiers, the Indigenous nations, and the African American patriots and descendants who carried the torch of liberty from the battlefields of the East Coast straight into the heart of the Badger State.

Today, the Wisconsin America250 Commission is pulling back the curtain on a remarkable, multi-generational story of service right here in Union Grove. Discover how the literal DNA of the American Revolution migrated west to shape early Wisconsin statehood and fuel the frontline regiments of the Civil War.

🦔🐢🦦 A wild day at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove! 🐍✨
Members recently met Roland the armadillo, Mosey the ferret, Howard the turtle, Corn Flake the corn snake, and Apple Jack the cavy — just a few of the many exotic animals presented by staff from Animal Quest. ❤️

The special visit gave members an opportunity to interact with and pet several fascinating animals while learning more about them from the Animal Quest team (www.animalquestinc.com). 🐾

🌸✨ Union Grove Celebrates Skilled Nursing Care Week 2026 ✨🌸
This week, the Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove is celebrating Skilled Nursing Care Week and this year’s theme: “Moments in Bloom.” 🌼

Throughout the week, the Union Grove Home is recognizing those special moments through activities that celebrate the people who help our community bloom each day. 💐

📸 During an active Monday, the week kicked off with a “Day of Compliments” as members, staff, and volunteers at Boland Hall collected “blooms” 💐 - comments, memories, compliments, and every day - actions that reflect the compassion, connection, and teamwork at the Union Grove Home.

Thank you to all who help create a caring and supportive home for our members each day.

🐾 Members of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove recently met Axel, Leaf, Oakley, and Tucker of the Wisconsin K9 SOS Rescue and Search Unit. 🐶

Alongside volunteer handlers Angie Clary, Chad Clary, and Craig Kubiak, the talented dogs demonstrated how the unit searches for missing persons on land, water, and inside buildings. Field Support Coordinator Terry Schwantes also shared how the dogs are specially trained to use scent and non-scent detection methods in search and rescue efforts.

Members enjoyed learning about the dogs’ important work — and spending time getting to know the talented four-legged visitors! ❤️🐕

As a part of our National Nurses Week celebration, we are pleased to introduce Jessica - the new Director of Nursing at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove!

Jessica just recently stepped into this role, bringing prior experience as a Director of Nursing in a skilled nursing facility. She finds the most rewarding part of her work is seeing residents and staff happy; this is something she strives to foster each day at the Union Grove Home.

Jessica comes from a family with military connections - both her father and grandfather served - adding a personal connection to her work caring for veterans.
Jessica’s advice to others starting a new role at the Union Grove Home: “Do not be afraid to take a risk and begin a new journey in a different building. Everyone so far has been very welcoming and supportive.”

Please join us in welcoming Jessica to the Union Grove team and thanking her for the care and leadership she brings! 👏

In honor of National Therapy Animal Day (April 30), the Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove thanks our incredible therapy pets—and their dedicated volunteer handlers—for bringing comfort and companionship to our members. 💙
