Kundalini meditation: Calm Heart Breath Meditation 🧘
(Word references and source located at the bottom)
Set nam. Today we’re gonna work on a beautiful meditation, a breath meditation called calm heart. It’s a Wonderful way for beginners to begin to learn how to meditate using the breath. The breath is such a beautiful instrument for calming the mind, relaxing the body, and allowing the emotions to stabilize themselves . I personally love this meditation because it is an active stillness. It gives me so much energy at the end of each practice. I feel joy and clarity. we all get so busy with life with so many stresses and after this meditation, I feel so much peace.
For beginners:
One thing I want to warn you about as you begin to meditate especially as a beginner your mind will be flooded with thoughts What are you going to do today? What happened yesterday? When are you going to have your next appointment? All of these things are going to come through. But that’s OK. Don’t worry about them.
Just noticed them and don’t engage with them. If you start to getting engaged with the thought, then you start getting off your meditation a little bit and that also is not a big problem, especially For beginners Just notice it, come back and focus on your breath again.
You can do this meditation sitting on the floor sitting in a chair as long as you’re not leaning on the back of the chair. If you’re feeling tense before going somewhere, try this meditation so that you can enter calm, centered, and strong. This breath will help you.
So you’ll be taking a long deep breath in through your nose, You’ll hold the breath just as long as you feel comfortable And when you have to exhale, you’ll exhale the breath out of your nose Easily and deeply And you’ll also hold the breath out as long as you feel comfortable.
Let’s talk about the breath a little bit When you’re doing your yogic breath, you’ll breathe from the bottom of your lungs expanding your pelvic area your lungs your lower back and your ribs. And slowly the breath comes up to your mid chest area and a little under the clavicle bone then when you exhale , you’ll exhale from the top all the way down again. So you’re going to breathe in and widen. Breathe out and you, lengthen the spine. this will keep your spine straight and tall. You’ll find as you continue to practice this meditation you’ll be able to hold the breath longer. And take a little bit longer each time you inhale. It’s a gradual process. It happens without even trying.
Place your left hand on your heart. Your right hand is placed in a Mudra, which is a hand
Position where you bring the the tips of your index finger and your thumb together. The other 3 fingers remain straight. This position is called Gyan Mudra. This Mudra taps into wisdom. Elbows are both relaxed by your side. The right hand remains up with the right elbow rested on your side. Your shoulders are relaxed. And your spine is nice and long, but not stiff. your eyes are closed gently and relaxed. you feel comfortable.
When you touch your heart, you’re opening up the love and compassion that you feel inside of yourself for yourself. You also want to fill that love and compassion for everything around you and everyone around you. No matter who they are or what they’ve done. or whether you like them or not when you meditate you want to open your heart so that you can accept everyone for who they are and that keeps you peaceful, full of light relaxed and able to enjoy each moment of your life.
Keep reminding yourself to breathe deeply and calmly. Keep reminding yourself to hold the breath at the end of each inhale and exhale without any straining. We remember to keep everything relaxed, our body, our shoulders, neck and all the muscles in your our face stay relaxed.
Begin the meditation and practice for 3 minutes.
When you finish, relax your hands down. Set Nam.
When you’re calm, you can see life differently. You see it as a gift. You see it as an opportunity to tap into the beauty and strength, joy and the creativity that is inside you. Enjoy your day!
*Word reference
Yoga is about Union. It’s about bringing together the body mind and spirit.
The word Sat Nam is derived from the Sanskrit words sat which means "truth" and nam which means "name".
In Kundalini Yoga, Sat Nam is a mantra that is used to end classes, greet each other, and in meditations. It is said to help uncover one's personal truth, awaken the inner being, and expand the mind to embrace universal truths.
