I DID NOT WRITE THIS. I AM SHARING IT.

Some of y’all are so attached to your version of recovery that you take evidence based information as a personal attack. That’s not advocacy… that’s identity protection.

Recovery is not frozen in time.

What worked or what was available 20, 30, 40 years ago is not the gold standard today. Science evolves. Medicine evolves. Our understanding of substance use disorder evolves.

And in 2026, we are way past the point of debating whether medication assisted treatment (MAT) is “real recovery.” Or “sobriety.”

That debate is not rooted in science. It’s rooted in ideology.

Here’s the uncomfortable truth:

You can have lived experience and still be misinformed.
You can have years “clean” and still perpetuate harm.
You can have a powerful story and still be wrong about the science.

Lived experience gives perspective not authority over medical consensus.

Because the data is clear:
MAT reduces overdose deaths.
MAT increases treatment retention.
MAT stabilizes brain chemistry and restores functioning.

That is not up for debate just because it makes you uncomfortable.

What is up for debate is why people are so resistant to accepting it.

And if we’re being real?
A lot of it comes down to ego, identity, and a need to feel “above” other people’s recovery paths.

If your definition of recovery requires someone else to be “less than”…
that’s not recovery that’s hierarchy.

And it’s dangerous.

Because while people argue semantics like “clean” vs “not clean,” real people are out here trying to stay alive in the middle of a fentanyl crisis.

Words matter.

When you tell someone on buprenorphine or methadone that they’re “not really sober,” what they hear is:
“I don’t count.”
“I’m still broken.”
“I’ll never be enough.”

And for someone already carrying shame, trauma, and instability… that can be the difference between staying in treatment or walking away from it.

Sometimes that difference is life or death.

So no I’m not going to water down evidence to make it more palatable.
And I’m not going to prioritize outdated recovery rhetoric over what is actively saving lives.

You don’t have to like MAT.
You don’t have to choose it for yourself.

But you do have a responsibility to not spread misinformation that can cost someone their life.

Recovery is not about who did it the “purest” way.
It’s about who is still here.

And if your beliefs can’t evolve with evidence…
then you’re not protecting recovery.

You’re protecting your comfort.

And people are dying in that gap.

We can do better than that.

198,000 views later and the comment section proved my entire point.

People are not mad because I’m wrong.
They’re mad because I didn’t center feelings I centered facts.

Let’s talk about it…

Hope In Motion God gets all the glory!

First licensed men's sober living home in Fayette Co.

A Grateful Milestone for Fayette County
Today our inspection went very well,
and our application is now being pushed forward for approval.

Stephanie and I are truly grateful.

What began as a vision to serve Fayette County
has taken patience, prayer, discipline, and steady work.

There were long nights.
Difficult moments.
Quiet sacrifices.

But step by step,
with faith and consistency,
we’ve seen doors begin to open.

At Hope House, we believe restoration is possible.
At Hope Works, we believe every person in Fayette County deserves purpose and opportunity.

This milestone isn’t about recognition.
It’s about responsibility.
It’s about continuing to serve our community
with humility, integrity, and love.

If we’ve learned anything, it’s this:

Stay faithful.
Work hard.
Remain disciplined.
Trust the process.

Dreams and goals can be achieved —
even right here in Fayette County.

With grateful hearts,
Curtis & Stephanie Jarrett & Patrick Donnelly

Let Me Be Clear About Something.

I am an advocate for MAT — Medication Assisted Treatment.
I was once on MAT myself. And I’m not ashamed to say that.
At Hope House, we are MAT-friendly. Period.

We believe in recovery that saves lives. We believe in meeting people where they are. We believe that if a medication keeps someone alive long enough to heal, rebuild, and grow — then that matters.

Stigma is real. And unfortunately, sometimes it even exists inside the recovery community. THAT HAS TO CHANGE!

Recovery is not one-size-fits-all. What works for one person may not work for another. The goal is not to argue about pathways — the goal is to keep people alive and help them build a life they’re proud of.

Talking down on MAT, talking down on people who choose it, or talking down on houses that support it only divides us when we should be united.

We all claim we want the same thing: Less funerals. More fathers home. More mothers restored. More families healed.
We can’t fight addiction while fighting each other.

At Hope House, we stand on compassion. We stand on science. We stand on lived experience. We stand on Jesus Christ. Faith and Grace, And we stand on unity over stigma.
If you don’t agree with MAT, that’s your choice. But we won’t shame someone for choosing a path that helps them stay alive.

Let’s come together on this issue. Lives depend on it.
