Time for a social detox! 🏝☀️Summer time has always been a time of reflection for me. Often I’ll find myself reflecting on relationships that are healthy for me and those that just don’t serve a purpose anymore.

Now that we’re at the halfway point of 2022, take some time to reflect on the people around you. Are they good for your mental health? If not, take some action so that they are.
Stay posted for action steps to help you find people who are good for your mental health!

Yesterday was a terrible day in America. I think many of us are waking up today with a heavier heart. Please know that it’s ok to feel sad about national news. And to also feel helpless.

Depression can creep in very quickly after heart breaking events like the senseless killings of young children and their teacher.

Be with loved ones, support those who may be silently suffering, find help and support if you need it.

It’s a question my clients ask often… “how do I know I’m getting better?” Therapists can give you assessments like the GAD or PHQ-9 to track progress but sometimes you can see progress with self-awareness too!

Here are just a few signs that you’re making progress. It’s also great to hear what others may be seeing…so ask your support people!

How do you measure improvement and progress? Leave me a comment! I’d love to hear!

For years, my family members have called me sensitive and I took it like a champ. But now I’m realizing that I was reacting appropriately to criticism and judgement that I never even asked for. And they weren’t cool with my “sensitive” reaction.

Sucks for them…cuz I know better now and I love being self-aware. No matter if their intentions are supposed to mean well, I know that gaslighting me or minimizing my feelings is no longer cool.

Being a therapist and engaging in therapy myself has taught me that how to manage my reactions in a healthy way for ME (not anyone else). Wanna learn how? Follow me or shoot me a DM. I’m always happy to support!

😳 We let fear decide way too much in our lives. Fear can stop you from meeting a goal, doing something different, or making new connections.

Values guide us to feeling more aligned with our goals and can even improve relationships. Just think…what if we set aside our fears and just let our values guide the show?

If you struggle with identifying your current values, leave me a comment or a DM. I’m happy to help you discover them! 😊

We are all starting to understand the importance of setting healthy boundaries for ourselves. But do we really know what we’re in for? Here are a few hard truths about boundaries.

Leave me a comment if you’ve experienced these when setting healthy boundaries.

I got gaslighted recently by a family member who told me to be the bigger person. But…I’m done with the role.

Being the bigger person always left me feeling invalidated and insignificant. And I’m over that!

Are you over it too? Leave me a comment or DM me if you’d like to retire from your role as “the bigger person”. I’d love to hear from you!!

Sooo…how are we all feeling after this weekend? Just wanted to check in 😊

I know that we can get pretty worked up over the weekend, especially if we had to spend time with dysfunctional family members.

But, today, allow yourself to let things go. Focus on what matters to YOU today. Focus on things YOU can control. Focus on YOUR needs. Focus on what makes YOU happy.

See the pattern? How will you focus on YOU this week?

We all love encouragement. But there are times when someone’s words of encouragement leave us feeling shamed and invalidated. Here are some ways to change the way you encourage so it sounds more validating to the people you love. It’s just a little play on words that can make a world of difference!

What are some ways you like to validate the people you love? Leave me a comment, I’m curious to know!

As a child of Filipino immigrants, I learned the value of my heritage at a very young age. There were times I was embarrassed by it but over the years, I’ve learned to embrace my family’s story and be proud of the Asian American that I am today.

I’m excited to celebrate this month because it has a new meaning to me. Being an Asian American business owner is something my family never thought would happen. I heard fear in a lot of their voices when I talked about starting this business. But I celebrate this with them and for them. It’s because of their choices and their resilience that I’m able to do what I do now.

And as an Asian American therapist, I celebrate everyone in the AAPI community willing to break stigma and get past barriers to prioritize their mental health. What can I say…I’m pretty proud to be AAPI! 🇵🇭🇺🇸

Whether it’s a romantic relationship, friendship or a relationship family member, it never feels good when the scale is tipped one way. It feels pretty gross 🤢 when one person gets their needs met way more often than another person. Just wanted to give you all some warning signs that you may be in a one-sided relationship and that you may need to consider setting up some boundaries.

Follow and comment ways you set boundaries when you find yourself in a one-sided relationship🙂

Oh that crazy inner monologue…it can get the best of us. Don’t give in to the negative verbiage that spins in your head. Changing your inner monologue promotes self-compassion which leads to healthier self-image and better emotional health.

What’s a phrase you can start using to change your inner monologue? My fave…”I am enough for the people who love me” 🥰

Ugh…I love coffee. And the more espresso, the better. But bummer…coffee makes anxiety worse.

If you’ve noticed that an increase in anxiety, it could be because of something random like coffee, your environment, being dehydrated, weird trigger smells or noises, poor sleep hygiene, or just unhealthy relationships.

Be aware (not hyper aware) of what triggers your anxiety. See if you have control over that trigger. For example, I can choose to cut back on coffee if my anxiety feels worse. But tbh, I can’t give that up just yet. 😝

Leave me a comment if you notice that your anxiety gets triggered by something random.

If you are hesitant to start therapy, ⬆️here are some reasons why it could be the best call you ever make.

Story time! The first time I ever saw a therapist was when the hubs was on his first deployment to Iraq. I was losing my mind being a working mom without her teammate. I needed someone to vent to who wouldn’t tell me to “suck it up” or “at least you’re not a single mom”. Well meaning people in my life thought I was strong enough to get through that long a$$ deployment. Turns out I was strong enough…to get therapeutic support during that deployment and the 4 other ones after.

Therapy doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means that you’re strong enough to know that it’s ok that you can’t do it alone.
