✂️💇♀️ Kindred Tips - How to prepare for haircuts 💇♂️✂️
Haircuts can be overwhelming for some kids — the sounds, the feeling, the change in routine… it’s a lot! But with some prep and patience, it can be a positive experience. 💛
Here are a few tips to help:
🧸 Talk About It Early
Use books, pictures, or pretend play to explain what will happen during a haircut. Normalize the sounds and steps.
🎧 Bring Comfort Items
Earbuds, fidget toys, a favorite stuffed animal, or even a weighted lap pad can make a big difference.
⏰ Don’t Rush
Pick a time of day your child is typically calm and well-fed. A relaxed environment helps them feel safe.
💬 Prep the Stylist
Let them know your child might need extra time or support. A sensory-friendly stylist can adjust their approach. Call one of our Fayetteville stylists - Jaclyn at Floyd's 99 Barbershop, Alyssa at Capelli Salon, or Rachel at Freshair!!!
🪞 Use a Mirror
Let your child watch what’s happening in real-time to reduce the fear of the unknown.
🎵 Use Distraction
Sing a favorite song, tell a story, or play a calming video on your phone.
🏆 Praise & Reward
Celebrate every win, no matter how small — even if they just sit in the chair this time!
Remember, it’s okay to take it slow. Progress might look different for every child, and that’s more than okay. 💕
