ADVOCATES - we urge you to join us in becoming an advocate for people with migraine and/or upping your level of play! Migraine disease affects 47 million Americans -- 75 percent of whom are women. Get curious - if 1 out of every 5 women has migraine, who are these women in YOUR network? We must eliminate the stigma for our friends, empower them and help them get what they need. For 2020, the National Institutes of Health has allocated $27 million for migraine research, a paltry amount, say advocates, for a disease that affects 15 percent of Americans and leads to billions of dollars in lost productivity annually.
For comparison, the NIH allocated $31 million this year to anthrax, which affects just a handful of people every year.
What's the issue? A big part of it is the stigma.
