More and more reproductive endocrinologists and fertility clinics are referring patients to acupuncture—why? 🤔 Because clinical outcomes (healthy pregnancies and babies!) are better when acupuncture is part of the IVF treatment plan. 💕

👉Here are three evidence-based reasons why:

📍1. Acupuncture increases blood flow to the uterus—this helps develop the endometrium to prepare it to receive an embryo

📍2. Acupuncture reduces stress. It increases our feel-good hormones, and regulates the HPA/HPO axis. Acupuncture also reduces IVF related anxiety

📍 3. Acupuncture improves your odds of having a baby with IVF. A 2019 meta analysis that studied the results of 1,980 women undergoing IVF showed that acupuncture increased positive pregnancy tests by 28-32%, ongoing pregnancy rates by 42%, and live birth rate by 30%. When treatment is individualized (whole systems approach), these figures are even better. 👌

💗 There is no “magic number of treatments” to support IVF—however, if you’re considering incorporating acupuncture into your fertility plan, then we generally recommend beginning acupuncture 3 months prior to getting started (ideally); OR 10-12 treatments prior to egg retrieval and FET.

☝️ I’ve wanted to study medicine since I was 4 years old—but it wasn’t until my own health crisis in my early twenties that I discovered the power of East Asian medicine, which ultimately led me to this career as an acupuncturist 🙏

💗 While this period was incredibly difficult and painful, I look back on this suffering with immense gratitude… for without it, I would not be here. I am now forever inspired and moved by this ancient medicine, and am beyond grateful to share this wisdom with every individual who walks into our clinic and trusts us with their care. You all constantly inspire us to grow, learn and be the best practitioners we can be.

📍Our clinic is about to have its third birthday —and to date, we have had 700+ people walk through our clinic doors to receive treatment! Wow! I look forward to many more years to come 💫

There’s always a silver lining . May we all find peace and and wisdom on this journey🙏

With care,
💕

💕 Personal post… I’m getting married in 100 days! 🥰 Over the last three years i’ve been putting SO much energy into building and it’s been an incredible journey. Behind me every step of the way, through all the blood, sweat and tears (quite literally 🌹) was my incredible partner, Brad. He’s lifted me up and held me tight on all the hard days and celebrated all my wins with me, too.

Many of my regular patients know already, but I’ll be out for most of the month of June—to enjoy our wedding celebration, a honeymoon and decompression 😊

That said, I’ll be opening my books again to a handful of new patients at the end of the month (if you’re on my waitlist a call is coming soon!) and my incredible associate Dr Erica ( ) will be covering for me a few extra shifts a week for my while I’m gone—to ensure all my wonderful patients are able to stay on their treatment plans, and to be available for any IVF support.

I’ll send a formal email out soon via our newsletter, but 100 days felt exciting to celebrate 🎉

Cheers to love ❤️

Spent a little time with my old friend Giovanni Maciocia this morning as I prep for a virtual workshop with .ellers and her PHASIC community this Friday at 2PM 📍

👩‍💻Topic: Acupuncture and herbs for pelvic health: and the phases of life ☯️

A few times a year I love to flip through my Fundamentals of Chinese Medicine textbook….I find when I go back to basics my ‘beginners mind’ comes alive.

🌀 What I love most about being an acupuncturist is the present moment feels effortless. You are here and now—with your patient, having a human to human moment, watching and feeling energy move right before your eyes and beneath your finger tips. I feel so lucky to be in this role 🙏 ⁣

August 1st was the 2 year anniversary of and I almost forgot to take a moment to celebrate. So cheers and thank you to all of our patients and friends out there. ⁣

Without you, I would not be here. Not like this, anyway 🙏 ⁣

❤️ With great care,⁣

🧸We are seeing many more reproductive endocrinologists and fertility clinics are referring to acupuncture these days—the data reveal more healthy pregnancies, live births and less stressed mamas when acupuncture is part of fertility treatment 👍 ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
📍Acupuncture for fertility also comes highly recommended by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine—typically, beginning acupuncture for 2-3 months prior to IVF or TTC is recommended. ⁣⁣

😊 As an aside, I’m beginning to really love treating pregnancy in the third trimester. There is so much relief when we finally get here. At this stage we are often working on making mama feel more comfortable, encouraging babies to be in optimal position, preparing for labor and reducing stress. Babies often feel the acupuncture and start wiggling… it’s a beautiful way for mama and baby to connect energetically during this time. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It’s really an honor to be part of the process… from trying to conceive, to pregnancy and postpartum 🥰 ⁣⁣

For those of you who don’t know, I am studying and preparing for board-certification in reproductive medicine (ABORM) and I’m super jazzed about it! More fertility, pregnancy and postpartum content to come 💗⁣⁣

📍4/20/2019 - That time a bunch of American acupuncturists made it to Great Wall of China 🇨🇳 ⁣

Looking back, we were probably some of the last American acupuncturists to be studying in China before the world as we knew it changed…pre-pandemic life 🤔 ⁣

📚 This was towards the end of a short spring semester studying in a Beijing teaching hospital…an experience of a lifetime and an incredibly unique experience for a western acupuncturist. ⁣

🌱 In TCM, everything is viewed in cycles and phases, and the menstrual cycle is no different 🩸. ⁣

🧬 While functional, western medicine dives into two major phases (follicular and luteal), Chinese medicine breaks this down even further—into four phases: Blood, Yin, Yang, and Qi… ☯️ ⁣

🌱 When we are working on regulating the menstrual cycle, the acupuncture points, herbs and even food therapy suggested are considered within the framework of the phases.⁣

💓As we use guiding principles of the four phase, we of course always keeping in mind the individual patient. ⁣

🙌 With regular treatment and teamwork between patient and practitioner, we are typically able to regulate a menstrual cycle, reduce PMS and menstrual cramps, and improve chances of conceiving in 3-6 cycles.⁣

⏰ While this is a slower medicine, we actually get to the root of the issue and find harmony with nature—and it’s so satisfying! 🤗 ⁣

Who out there is regulating their menstrual cycle with their acupuncturist!? Share your story👇 ⁣

🌊 SEA of Qi—this acupuncture point supernova is one of my favorites and I use it often 🌟 ⁣

🌊 Ren 6, or “Sea of Qi” is located on what we call the “conception vessel” - one of the first meridians to develop in utero 🧬 ⁣

📍Clinically, this is an essential point in treating all things women’s health—including fertility, menstrual disorders, etc. ⁣

📍This point is said to be a “reservoir of Qi” for the whole body. In cases of Qi or Yang deficiency, nourishing this point through acupuncture, moxibustion, thermal therapy or Qigong is extremely therapeutic as it vitalizes the whole body 💥 ⁣

☯️ In Qigong, which some say is the highest form of Chinese Medicine - this point is the energy center of or “lower Dan Tian” or lower center.⁣

💕Let’s embrace YANG SHENG - the eastern art of “nourishing life”, embracing the natural rhythms and being in harmony with nature ☯️ 😊 ⁣

Culturally, we love to get moving and make resolutions to *make things happen* this time of year (and sign up for the gym 😂🏃‍♂️ — but in Eastern Medicine, this time of year is for quiet reflection, intentional yet slow movements…and lots of warm stew… 🍲⁣

If you are getting a slow start to the year - do not worry! You are in harmony with nature ☯️ and big, beautiful things are bound to happen when the time is right 💫 🌱 ⁣

Embrace the lifestyle 🙌

☝️This is one of my favorite acupuncture points. It’s called Cì Liáo (次髎) or “Second Crevice” - as it is located right in the second posterior sacral foramen.

▫️This point is the meeting point of the Bladder and Gall Bladder Meridians— two channels often affected in low back pain and sciatica, and this point pair is thus excellent at treating both conditions.

▫️I use this point combo often with my women’s health patients — as stimulating these points activates blood flow to the uterus.

👍 This point is extremely helpful for painful periods, regulating menstruation, fertility support and promoting labor —(🚫not to be used in pregnancy until the very end)

Acupuncture at these points can initially elicit a strong sensation, but many patients find it very grounding and nourishing after a few seconds.

Who else loves this point? 🤔
