I knew I wanted to learn this pretty quick into massage school.
Then when I got to experience it myself, it lit a whole new passion in me for bodywork.
The term "Ashiatsu" comes from the Japanese words "ashi," meaning foot, and "atsu," meaning pressure. Ashiatsu has its roots in ancient Asian cultures and has evolved over the years with practitioners incorporating their own styles and techniques, like the bars for example! The parallel overhead bars provide support, balance, and leverage while performing the massage.
✨Benefits of Ashiatsu:
🦶🏽Deep Tissue Relief • The weight of the practitioner’s body allows for deeper pressure, which can effectively target chronic muscle tension and pain.
🦶🏽Improved Circulation • The rhythmic movements and pressure applied during an Ashiatsu session can enhance blood flow, promoting better oxygen and nutrient delivery to muscles.
🦶🏽Enhanced Flexibility • The stretching and pressure techniques used can help improve overall flexibility and range of motion.
🦶🏽Stress Reduction • Like many forms of massage, Ashiatsu promotes relaxation and can help reduce stress and anxiety levels.
🦶🏽Versatile Techniques• Therapists can easily adjust the pressure and technique based on the client's needs, making it a customizable experience.
🦶🏽Postural Improvement • By addressing muscle imbalances and tension, Ashiatsu can contribute to better posture and alignment.
** Deep tissue massage does not have to include bruising and pokey fingers or elbows. That’s one of the things I love about this technique. The broad, slow intentional glide of the foot gets deep without paying a price for pain to get relief. **
Ashiatsu is more than just a massage; it’s a holistic approach to wellness that combines ancient techniques with modern therapeutic practices.
Whether you're seeking relief from chronic pain, looking to reduce stress, or simply wanting to indulge in a unique massage experience, this might be just what the doctor ordered.
