EndoCannabinoid System Education This page exists to help educate people about the "Endocannabinoid System" that we all have inside our bodies.

Our goal is to share valuable content, bring awareness, and create a safe place for healthy debates so we can all learn and grow. The EndoCannabinoid System, that we all have inside our bodies, was only recently discovered by scientists in the late 1980s. This is the reason a lot of us have probably never heard about it and why it wasn't taught to us in school when we were all growing up. With the

popularity and rise of the Cannabis industry, this is quickly changing and more research and discoveries are being made daily about our EndoCannabinoid System. Hemp and Cannabis based products interact directly with our EndoCannabinoid System and are quickly growing in popularity from the public. Scientists and researchers are beginning to study the effects of Hemp and Cannabis products on our EndoCannabinoid System and how we can potentially use this healing plant to address many areas that affect our health and wellness. This page was designed to be a safe space for people to learn the latest research and discoveries of our EndoCannabinoid System and how Hemp and Cannabis can be specifically used to address the various health challenges we face in today's society. This is a new and quickly growing field of science that we hope to decipher and break down for people in an easy to understand way. Our team has joined forces with a chemist and endocannabinoid system scientist named Chad Sallaberry who is currently doing research at the University of Notredame. He has published papers on the science of the ECS and understands how it operates inside our bodies. He is working with us directly to bring you the latest in ECS science and education. Stay tuned to learn from a leading researcher in ECS research!

What is CBN?!!

Cannabinol (CBN) is one of the hundreds of cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Simply put, CBN is the result of old w**d! It’s the breakdown product of THC and is often found in older cannabis plants. Because the THC is degraded, CBN does not have the same psychoactive 😵‍💫 effects of THC. More and more people are becoming very interested in the therapeutic effects of CBN, especially those who are sensitive or cannot tolerate THC. CBN can be found in many cannabis products like topicals, capsules, edibles, and CBD oil! CBN is being used for many reasons, but mostly well for sleeplessness, stress and anxiousness 💚

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard of CBD, THC, and maybe even terpenes, and their amazing healing benefits! But what about some of the other very powerful cannabinoids that are showing up in the research and studies like CBG?!

Our Daily Dose has 300 mg of CBG (The Mother of All Cannabinoids)- One of the most powerful cell harmonizing compounds in h**p!! ✨✨✨

CBG is really exciting because some research has shown that it may help improve bodily function, associated with the digestive system, the nervous system, and cellular function. Part of what makes CBG unique is that it’s involved in the formation of several other essential cannabinoids!!

We know CBD has amazing benefits, but it doesn’t bind directly to CB1 or CB2 receptors in your body, and acts like a catalyst for other cannabinoids in the body.
CBG, on the other hand, does bind to both CB1 and CB2 receptors, meaning it can have a more powerful impact on the body.
Taken together, these cannabinoids serve a beautiful and powerful healing experience by balancing your ECS, and allowing your body to better heal itself!! 🙌🏻

Did you know…..

💥 It used to be ILLEGAL to NOT grow h**p!? You heard that right. There was a time in American history when farmers could be fined and/or jailed for choosing not to grow h**p! It was such a valuable crop in Virginia that the Assembly of Jamestown Colony passed a law in 1619 to make it mandatory for every farmer to grow Indian h**pseed!!

Until….

💥 H**p was deemed a BILLION DOLLAR CROP before the government severely regulated it through the Ma*****na Tax Act of 1937 and then banned it altogether with the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, grouping it with its cousin ma*****na 😔

Last week the papers shown focused on the ECS’s impact on the immune system, to help illustrate the impact this system can have.
This week on ECS Education, we want to discuss a key component of the ECS, Anandamide aka The "Bliss" Molecule! I feel the paper “Brain activity of anandamide: a rewarding bliss?” by Scherma Et al.(
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/articles/PMC6460372/) does a great job overviewing this incredibly impactful molecule. An overview of the article will be continued in the comments below...

Anandamide is a lipid mediator that acts as an endogenous ligand of CB1 receptors. These receptors are also the primary molecular target responsible for the pharmacological effects of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive ingredient in Cannabis ...

Today, Co-Founder of The AlcH**pist Austin Terry and ECS Scientist Chad Sallaberry will be discussing the importance of the Endocannabinoid System and a little bit about its impact on the immune system. We'll be covering a broad overview of the ECS as a whole, the interactions of h**p/cannabis with the ECS, and a brief dive into the immune system.

💥 Is h**p cultivation damaging to the environment? No way! In fact, it’s quite the opposite!

Here’s why: h**p uses a lot less water than corn, cotton, soy, wheat, and rice. In comparison to growing cotton, h**p would save around 9 million liters of water💧

🌳 It absorbs 5x more CO2 than trees 🌳

♻️ And best of all, h**p cleans contaminated soil!! This process is called phytoremediation and can be effectively used to pull toxins and chemicals out of damaged soil to be stored in the plant’s leaves, stalks, and stems!!

Hey Everyone! This week's study is on the "Immunoregulatory Role of Cannabinoids during Infectious Disease"

Link: https://www.karger.com/Article/Fulltext/481824

The past two week’s the papers shared here looked at the cannabinoids impact on COVID-19’s entry into the cell, and then took a broader look at all the potential impacts the Endocannabinoid System has on immune function. This week, the paper focuses somewhere in the middle, looking at the ECS’s role specifically on infectious diseases such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites. (Breakdown continued in the comments)

Although the endocannabinoid system (ECS) is involved in the regulation of several physiological processes, including sleep and the immune response, its role during infections has not been fully studied. It is well known that the use of this drug increases susceptibility to infections because of the...

H**p Facts ✅

💥 Is H**p the same as ma*****na? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Nope! They’re more like cousins of the same family plant, called Cannabis Sativa. H**p has higher amounts of CBD and little to no THC, so it won’t get you high like ma*****na can. (H**p < 0.3% THC and Ma*****na = 8-30% THC)

💥 Grown around the world since 2800 BCE, H**p was cultivated for its strong fibers, used to make rope, clothes, and even construction materials! H**p has edible seeds that contain 30% quality protein, plolyunsaturated fats, and dietary fiber, making H**p a powerful superfood!

💥 More than 25,000 products can be made from h**p! Including: Fabrics, bio-fuels, building materials, medicine, plastics, and more! We used it for thousands of years and only recently stopped widespread manufacturing in the 1940’s due to policy changes and political interests.

Hello all!

The paper I am sharing this week is “Cannabis, the Endocannabinoid System and Immunity—the Journey from the Bedside to the Bench and Back” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7352399/.

In this article scientists Osnat Almogi-Hazan* and Reuven Or discuss how crucial the ECS is in regulating the immune system, discussing everything from its role in combating cancer to helping recipients of organ transplants. I will post a short summary of the paper in the comments

The Cannabis plant contains numerous components, including cannabinoids and other active molecules. The phyto-cannabinoid activity is mediated by the endocannabinoid system. Cannabinoids affect the nervous system and play significant roles in the regulation ...

Recently, an incredibly interesting new article published in the peer-reviewed journal: The Journal of Natural Sciences, details how certain cannabinoids may hold therapeutic potential in treating COVID-19. The paper is called “Cannabinoids Block Cellular Entry of SARS-CoV-2 and the Emerging Variants” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8768006/

Below, are a few key takeaways from the paper:

The scientists wanted to see if any cannabinoids could interact with a part of the COVID spike protein to prevent entry into cells

Of the three subunits that make up the spike protein (S1, S2, and S3) it appeared that certain cannabinoids did have an affinity for the S1 subunit of the spike protein

Specifically, CBDA, THCA-A CBGA, had what could we be deemed clinically relevant (low micromolar high nanomolar) affinities for the spike protein

After determining that they did indeed bind this protein, they wanted to see if the binding of the spike protein prevented cellular entry.

In cell work, they found that incubation of the COVID viruses with the cannabinoids did prevent viral entry into the cells, once again at clinically relevant levels.

This is a huge finding, and helps further emphasize the immense potential of cannabinoids therapeutic relevance.

While this study was a first step more than a means towards an end, it once again shows therapeutic potential of cannabinoids, making the FDA’s scheduling of cannabis as a schedule 1 drug (largely based on the claim of no currently accepted medical use) seem even more erroneous.
