Why I don’t use the term "God Image."

In Islamic Psychology, we need terms that respect the Unseen (Ghayb) without anthropomorphizing Allah.

Instead of "God Image," which implies a static picture, I propose: Divine Experiential Internalization.

Here is what that means for your heart:
🧠 It’s Not a Picture, It’s a Filter
This concept isn't about what God "looks" like. It is an unconscious filter in your Nafs (self) that dictates how you feel His presence.
🌱 The Equation
Your Fitrah (innate connection to God) + Your Early Relational History = Your Internalization.
If your early caregivers were harsh, your filter might distort the Light of Allah, making you expect punishment even when you seek mercy.
❤️ Head vs. Heart
This explains the spiritual disconnect: You may know intellectually that Allah is Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful), but your internalization makes you feel only His Jalal (Rigor/Threat) rather than His Jamal (Beauty/Sanctuary).

Therapy is about cleaning the filter so your heart can finally experience the Reality your mind already knows.

🌙 “Even when you feel broken, you are still held in the gaze of a Lord who never stops loving you.”

🕊️ “In every crack of your heart is a place for light to enter. Vulnerability is how we remember our need for God.”

🧭 “Shame disconnects us from our essence. But Allah is al-Latīf — the Most Gentle — calling us back, not with judgment, but with love.”

🫀 “You are not defined by your lowest moment. You are defined by your return.”

Shaykh al-Akbar continues “So as long as the ontological command does not attach itself to the commanded act, it is impossible for the servant to obey the prescriptive command. Indeed, how can a thing which does not possess existence in itself bestow existence upon another nonexistent entity and bring it from the concealment of nothingness to the wide-open plain of being? My friend, read the verse, "And God created you and what you do" and know that your being and acts come from the ineffable One.”

Muhasibi, whose name has been said to have derived from the term Muhasaba, emphasizes accountability of all actions. In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to overlook the importance of evaluating our thoughts and actions. Let's take a moment to pause, reflect, and ensure that we are living in alignment with our values and intentions. 🌟

“The basic perception from which religious life moves forward is the present slender unity of the ego, his liability to dissolution, his amenability to reformation and the capacity for an ampler freedom to create new situations in known and unknown environments. In view of this fundamental perception higher religious life fixes its gaze on experiences symbolic of those subtle movements of Reality which seriously affect the destiny of the ego as a possibly permanent element in the constitution of Reality. If we look at the matter from this point of view modern psychology has not yet touched even the outer fringe of religious life, and is still far from the richness and variety of what is called religious experience.”
