😓EMOTIONAL: Irritability, sadness

😵‍💫PHYSICAL: Headaches, dizziness

🧠Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) can have a significant impact on balance and overall vestibular health, especially in older adults! Did you know that people aged 75 and older have the highest rates of TBI-related hospitalizations (32%) and deaths (28%)?

💡 Vestibular Symptoms to Watch for Post-TBI include:
😵‍💫Sensations of the room spinning
⚖️Overall imbalance or unsteadiness
🔙Feelings of falling or being pulled in one direction

These symptoms can indicate potential dysfunction in the vestibular system, which helps regulate balance and spatial orientation. If left unaddressed, these issues can lead to a higher risk of falls, decreased mobility, and a significant impact on quality of life.

👂No TBI is the same as another!! Factors such as the injury mechanism, clinical presentation, pre-existing conditions, and prolonged recovery risk factors (like previous concussions or a history of migraines) can all influence recovery.

🧠If you or a loved one has experienced a TBI and is noticing hearing trouble, balance issues or dizziness, we’re here to help!

Stress and tinnitus are closely connected.

😧

Yup, they are.

👇

When you're feeling stressed, your body's response can heighten the perception of ringing in your ears, making it more noticeable and bothersome. But stress doesn’t usually CAUSE tinnitus; it just makes it WORSE.

…and the worse your tinnitus gets, the worse your stress may get. We tend to call this the Snowball Effect. ❄️

💡 Tip: The first line of action is to come in and have your hearing tested. As audiologists, we can refer you if we believe it is something that needs medical attention.

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" Martin Luther King Jr.

✨🕊️As we honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. today, we’re reminded of the importance of service. Service to others not only uplifts those around us but also strengthens the bonds within our communities. Today, let’s reflect on ways we can contribute—big or small—to make the world a kinder, more compassionate place. 🕊️✨
How will you make a difference? 🌟

🍎 Most Americans have a routine list of healthcare screenings and appointments that we complete each year without much thought: a physical, vision check, dental cleaning, and bloodwork for things like diabetes. But there's one crucial test often missing from this list—a hearing test!

🩺 As audiologists, we believe evaluating your hearing is just as important as those other screenings. Hearing loss can significantly impact your quality of life and your interactions with family and friends.

🎧 We encourage you to make a hearing test part of your routine healthcare! 🦻✨

🤕Did you know that traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and concussions are more common than you might think?

🧠In fact, between 1.5 and 3.8 million sports-related TBIs occur every year - and those are just the reported cases! 😱But TBIs aren't always as obvious as we might imagine. A TBI can happen from any bump or blow to the head, leading to disruptions in normal brain function.

From mild to severe, the symptoms can vary widely, including:

🧠headaches
😵‍💫dizziness
🔍difficulty concentrating
💡sensitivity to light AND sound👂
🐝tinnitus

As audiologists, we often see patients post-TBI experiencing these challenges. If you or someone you know has experienced a TBI, know that we're here to help! 💪

👂🎶 Tinnitus—ever heard of it? For many, it's like an unwelcome guest that just won't leave. But here's the scoop: if you're one of the lucky ones with co-existing hearing loss, wearing hearing aids might just be your silver bullet.🦻

But what about those with normal hearing or just a hint of hearing loss? Cue sound therapy! 🎶 The goal? Use other sounds to change your internal reaction or draw your attention away from that persistent ringing. 👀

🦻For some, simply flipping on the radio or a noise machine does the trick. But others might benefit from ear-level devices—some hearing aids can even be "repurposed" as tinnitus maskers! With the amplification turned down, they can play soothing sounds to ease that relentless buzz.

At Oro Valley Audiology, we tailor tinnitus treatments to YOU. If you're ready to kick that ringing to the curb, give us a shout! 📞

👂But let's talk about the flip side: the risk of injuries. Has your child ever experienced a blow to their ear?

🧠While most research on auditory issues post-TBI focuses on adults, recent findings shed light on the challenges children may face.
