🎉 Announcing Matthew Schmitz M.D. as IODA's incoming president for 2024-25!

We're thrilled to introduce Dr Matthew Schmitz M.D. as our next president. Matthew is a fantastic addition to our presidential line, with a remarkable background in paediatric orthopaedics and sports medicine, and a wealth of experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Along with this new appointment of IODA president, Matthew recently joined the team at Rady Children's Hospital San Diego and began tenure as a clinical professor of orthopedics at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine.

Matthew began his career with a bachelor's in biology from the United States Air Force Academy, completing his pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at Rady Children’s Hospital. A 20-year veteran of the U.S Air Force, Matthew has since gone on to be the USA Rugby Men’s National Team physician, associate professor of surgery at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, and served as chair of the Department of Orthopaedics at the San Antonio Military Medical Center from 2019 to 2021.

Matthew has served leadership roles at the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America.

His dedication to orthopaedic care and his commitment to diversity and inclusion are commendable.
