Due to… February in Texas we are cancelling the meet up that we had planned for this Friday 🥶❄️ Please DM us if you’re interested in having it rescheduled for 3pm next Thursday (it’s supposed to be in the 60’s!☀️🌞) no matter what we will see you in April for our annual spring meet up at the yurt. 🐣💗🌻

We’ve decided we can’t wait till spring to see your faces! We have an issue that is near and dear to our heart: the continued practice of midwifery in this great State of Texas. We will be joining other midwives, families, and representatives from the Association of Texas Midwives (ATM) to help promote midwifery among state leaders. 
Your voice and experiences are powerful. We invite you to join us on February 5, 2025, to chat with legislative staffers about your pregnancy care and your experience with your midwife(s). There will be talking points provided to help you, and we promise it will be easy and fun!  
Join other home birthing families to help protect your right to give birth where you choose! 
• When: February 5, 2025, 10a-12p; there will be multiple shifts available all day
• Where: The Texas Capitol Building
• What: come spend an hour or two talking to legislative staffers who drop by for coffee and visiting your own representatives. You can be paired with other families to talk to your local representative and staff. Bring your sweet babies and kiddos!

Home Birth Honey 2024 Stats

Total families served - 48 families (14 primips and 34 multips) 

At term with HBH - 45 families (3 families no longer in care by 37 wks - one family moved back to their home country, one mom transferred providers with our assistance, one mom delivered her baby preterm in the hospital with the support of a HBH midwife).

Of the 45 families who initiated labor at term in the care of HBH, 42 delivered vaginally.  Our C/s rate as a practice was just 6.7%. (nationwide average for 2023 was 32.2%).

We had a 15.5% intrapartum (labor) transfer rate with the majority of our transfers still delivering vaginally!

Most remarkable statistic this year (differing from all previous years that we have tracked our statistics) - the vast majority of our clients delivered prior to 40 wks.  29 of the 45 clients who made it to term with us had their babies between 37 wks and 39.6 wks.  That’s 64% !  15 had their babies between 40.1 and 42 wks - that’s just 33%.   For sake of comparison - in 2021 59% had their babies after 40 wks.  In 2022 65% had their babies after 40 wks.  And in 2023 63% were born after 40 wks.  This is a big shift!!

We had only one baby born on their due date!

Largest baby was 9 #14.  Smallest was 5 #4.

23 of the 48 total moms was age 35 or older - 48%

We had 3 moms over the age of 40 and they all delivered vaginally at home.  

We also had one successful VBAC!

25 of the 45 moms had waters break spontaneously prior to active labor - 56%

Of the moms who delivered vaginally, only 21% of them had a laceration that required repair after the delivery (aka. The vast majority had their babies over an intact perineum or shallow first degree laceration).

We had 23 little boys and 22 little girls!

24 of 45 labored in water - 53%.  11 of the 45 birthed in water - 24%.
