Medshore Ambulance Service is proud to recognize several outstanding team members for their exemplary performance and commitment to excellence in patient care and communication.

Jessica Porras and Robert Peters were recently commended by the Medshore dispatch team for their consistently high level of performance. The internal citation praised them for being “quick and efficient in their transports,” while also highlighting their professionalism, respectful demeanor toward patients, and excellent communication. The commendation read, “Dispatch never has to question their status. Thank y’all for always being awesome!”

In addition to internal recognition, Medshore dispatch also recently received an external commendation from the wife of a patient transported by crew members Kywanna Thomas and Greta Kendrick. The patient’s wife expressed heartfelt appreciation, noting that “they were very professional and they handled her husband with extreme care.”

These commendations are a reminder of the everyday excellence demonstrated by Medshore crews. While challenges and complaints often receive more attention, the Operations Staff in Columbia proudly recognize and celebrate the dedication, compassion, and professionalism consistently shown by our teams.

“We are incredibly proud of Jessica, Robert, Kywanna, and Greta,” said Columbia Operations Manager Thomas Cathcart. “They exemplify the values of Medshore and set the standard for what exceptional patient care should look like.”

🚨 June is National Move Over Awareness Month 🚨

This month serves as an important reminder of how critical it is for drivers to yield to emergency vehicles. When first responders are en route to an emergency, every second matters—and your actions behind the wheel can make all the difference.

🚑 Here’s how to safely yield to emergency vehicles:
✔️ Move to the right and stop when you see lights or hear sirens
✔️ Remain stopped until the emergency vehicle has passed
✔️ Never block intersections or try to outrun emergency vehicles
✔️ Stay alert—avoid distractions and be prepared to act quickly

These simple steps help protect EMS professionals, law enforcement, fire crews—and the patients we serve.

📹 This video shows a recent incident in Georgia, where a vehicle failed to yield to a National EMS ambulance. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department quickly stepped in to ensure our team could proceed safely.

National EMS is a proud member of the Priority Ambulance family of companies, and we’re grateful to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department for their ongoing support in keeping our communities and crews safe.

Medshore Columbia Celebrates EMS Week by Honoring Longtime Service Members

In celebration of National EMS Week, Medshore Ambulance Service in Columbia proudly recognized several outstanding team members for their dedicated years of service in emergency medical care. Among them, one individual stood out for his extraordinary commitment to the profession: Kermit Long, who this year marks an impressive 50 years in EMS.

A pillar of the Columbia team for more than two decades, Kermit has held numerous roles throughout his career — from driver and EMT to Supervisor and Operations Manager. His steadfast dedication and willingness to go above and beyond have made him a respected leader and mentor across the organization.

“Kermit is the heart of our Columbia operations,” said Thomas Cathcart, Operations Manager at Medshore Columbia. “He brings energy, compassion, and a can-do spirit to every shift. He routinely volunteers for additional calls, even on days when most would take a well-earned rest.”

When asked about his plans for retirement, Kermit simply replied, “Maybe next year,” highlighting the enduring passion that has defined his five-decade career in EMS.

Kermit was presented with a longevity pin by D Shift Operations Supervisor Bridgit Cleveland as a symbol of Medshore’s appreciation for his incredible service.

In addition to Kermit, the following team members were also recognized for reaching career milestones:
