Why Heat is Risky for Seniors
As we age, our body's ability to regulate temperature declines—making seniors more prone to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
🚨 Know the Warning Signs
**Dehydration**
Dry mouth, dizziness, weakness, headache, dark urine
**Heat Exhaustion**
Heavy sweating, nausea/vomiting, cold clammy skin, muscle cramps
**Heat Stroke (Call 911 Immediately!)**
Body temperature > 103 °F, hot red/dry/clammy skin, confusion, rapid pulse
✅ Heat Safety Tips for Older Adults -
💧 Drink water regularly, even without thirst
🕙 Avoid being outside between 10 am–4 pm
❄️ Spend time in air-conditioned buildings or use fans
👕 Wear light-colored, loose clothing and a wide-brimmed hat
🚿 Take cool showers/baths
📱 Check weather forecasts and adjust plans
🚗 Never stay in a parked car, even briefly
👵 Community Check-ins
** Call or visit family, friends, and neighbors to ensure they’re cool and hydrated
Assist seniors in accessing transportation to cooling centers when needed
