We officially welcome Summer this evening! Summer, according to Eastern medicine, is the season of high energy and warmth. It is the time to enjoy the added hours of sunlight outside, a time to be with friends, and a time to reconnect with yourself as well. Every season is associated with an emotion in Eastern medicine - Summer is connected to joy (or lack of joy, when imbalanced). So, take moments this summer to find joy, whether that is spending time with others or enjoying a walk outside in nature and taking in the sunshine. Fill up your heart ♥️

👩🏽‍💼 Acupuncture during the summer can help regulate body temperature, reduce inflammation caused by excess heat, and promote overall balance (as in every season). While summer is a time for activity and socializing, it's important to balance this with adequate rest and relaxation to prevent burnout.

🍉 Summer Wellness Tips: •Incorporate mindfulness practices like meditation and deep breathing to stay grounded and manage stress. •Eat the foods of the season and foods that help keep the body cool: apples, lemons, kiwis, melons, oranges, pears, pineapples, mangos, cucumbers, spinach, tomatoes, as well as more raw foods, salads, yogurt, watermelon, barley, and black or green tea (the list is long, so we have so many options!). While alcoholic drinks may seem refreshing, alcohol actually heats up the body, so be mindful when drinking especially when you are out in the heat for prolonged amount of time. •Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of fluids every day to keep your body feeling cool.

It’s spring!!! 🌱 Well, almost! It is the time of the year to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, be outside more and be active, and start getting things done! Use the energy of the season to accomplish goals that you may have been putting off during the cold, dark winter days. It’s time to focus on you! Read on to learn how to stay well during Springtime…

🏃🏽‍♂️ Eastern medicine emphasizes movement and spending time outdoors to stimulate the flow of Qi (energy) and promote overall health. Now is the time to exercise, increase flexibility, and be outdoors as much as possible.

🥒 Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables. They are naturally lighter and easier to digest than heavier winter foods. Eat foods to nourish your liver (more about the liver below). Try eating leeks, dandelion greens, radish greens, beet greens, asparagus, artichokes, cabbage, wheat, and peas.

💧 Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of water to support proper bowel movements and digestion.

😡 According to Eastern medicine, your liver and gallbladder are essential for detoxification, energy flow, and emotional balance. The liver and gallbladder are associated with the emotion of anger. Have you watched the movie Inside Out? The character Anger depicts this emotion so well! He goes from 0 to 60 immediately as soon as something upsets him — a balanced Liver would be able to help you control your emotions and process through feelings of anger. As you can see, Anger can’t control his emotions and Fire comes out of his head. When our liver is healthy, reacting to an unpleasant situation would be calm and full of ease. Releasing anger is actually very healthy; however, too much anger all the time is unhealthy and damages your mind and body. And keeping all your anger and emotions pent up is also unhealthy. Balance is important is everything we do 🧘🏻‍♀️

🤧 Allergies: I hear it several times a week that Spring is the worst because allergies are coming out in full force. If you experience itchy eyes, a runny nose, a sore scratchy throat, or headaches come see me! Acupuncture can help cleanse the system of these allergens and ease the symptoms of Spring allergies.

Wishing you peaceful, healthy months ahead! Enjoy the warmth! And wear a scarf to protect yourself from the wind getting into you. Ask me questions if you have any. Stay well ❤️

Have you ever experienced cupping therapy? It is such a beneficial part of your treatment and I sometimes add it to your session before inserting acupuncture needles. Cupping therapy is using these small cups (see my pictures below) to suction your muscles and is used not only for pain relief and to reduce muscle tension, but also to boost the immune system and improve circulation. As with so many Eastern medicine modalities, cups also help reduce stress and help treat fatigue - leaving you feeling peaceful andd focused. 🧘🏻‍♀️

If you’ve had this treatment before, you may know that you feel reenergized afterwards! So, next time you’re getting a treatment, try cupping therapy. It feels fantastic. Stay well, everyone! ♥️

Moxabustion and acupuncture go together like cupcakes and sprinkles 🔥 — used independently, moxa and acupuncture needles can do wonders, but when used together the combination feels longer lasting and even more powerful. Whenever I use moxa in the treatment room, it stokes a lot of curiousity and I love it! Moxabustion is the part of the treatment where I light an herb (mugwort) on an acupuncture point. It helps warm the body, increase blood flow to the area (works amazing when treating an injury!), and stimulates the movement of Qi (energy). But really, it feels like someone put a warm blanket over your body ☺️

Wishing you all a restful, peaceful week ♥️

Take care of yourself ♥️

16/01/2025

We are going to survive and thrive this Winter. I, personally, feel my best in the Summer - brightness of the sun, warmth in the air, and the absence of the cold. Some people LOVE these below freezing temperatures and feel energized by breathing in the cool, crisp air that Winter brings. If you love the Winter, enjoy it — it is a season full of beauty and quiet. There is also an element of awe and wonder in the Winter that I don’t feel in any other season.

For anyone who may be struggling in the Winter, please know that it is natural to feel like you have lost all of your energy and that warmer days may never come again. I want to offer some tips to not completely hate Winter and to take care of yourself. If you’re feeling depressed and hopeless, please talk to a friend, a therapist, your doctor, or come see me. Acupuncture is magic and can help you feel like yourself — give you your spark back ❤️

1. Eat nutritious food. Eat stews, soups, soft foods that warm you up. Slow-cooked meals are perfect in the Winter.
2. Stay hydrated. I hear multiple times a week from patients that they don’t drink as much water in the Winter because it’s cold outside. Start your morning with a cup of warm water or hot tea. You’ll feel awake, energetic, and warm. Drink warm water throughout the day to increase your water intake.
3. Come in for acupuncture and moxabustion treatments. Winter is a wonderful time to remember to slow down, rest, and restore your energy. The moxa will warm up your body and the warmth stays with you long after your treatment ends.
4. Make plans for dinner with friends so you don’t feel lonely or isolated. If you feel like you need companionship, reach out. The Winter months are hard for many people and sometimes an open conversation with a friend can be very healing.
5. Prioritize self care in the Winter. If you need rest, rest. Don’t make too many plans if you’re tired. It is OK to say no. (Read that again ☺️)
6. Yoga and meditation — if you can’t get yourself to go work out at the gym everyday, do yoga at home to keep your body moving.
7. And finally, know that in a couple short months, Spring will be here and the days will be warmer and longer. In the meantime, don’t push yourself to do too much. The Spring energy will propel you to set goals and accomplish them. For now, hibernate as much as possible (read a good book, watch movies, spend time indoors with your family).

Stay well ♥️

Welcome, winter! ❄️ ⛄️ It’s the time of the year to slow down, rest, and save your energy for Spring. Be sure to eat warm, soft, nourishing food such as soups and stews that soothe your body. And avoid raw foods, such as raw fruits and vegetables, throughout the winter.

In 5-element acupuncture, Winter is associated with the Kidneys and Bladders, which together are responsible for restoring energy. When out of balance, you may feel fatigued and lack energy after a short bout of activity or experience back pain. Ask me any questions you may have — the details are complex, but makes so much sense!

So, for now, prioritize rest and taking care of yourself. Sleep more, eat hearty foods, get acupuncture treatments, and stay in more often. Your body will love you when Spring arrives. Stay well, everyone! ♥️
