Happy Heart Month! DeBeen Cares!
Don’t forget that Feb is American Heart Month, designated by various governmental and medical organizations, including the American Heart Association. Two weeks ago was National Wear Red For Heart Disease Day. The goal is to “raise awareness among women about heart disease and stroke.”
Heart disease is the top fatal disease in the U.S. for all genders and most ethnic groups. According to the CDC, “two in 10 deaths from coronary artery disease happen in adults less than 65 years old.” Someone in the U.S. “has a heart attack every 40 seconds.” About one in five “heart attacks is silent — the damage is done, but the person is not aware of it.”
Furthermore, “Heart disease is a killer that strikes more women than men, and is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined.” About as many women as men suffer from heart disease, but they are less likely to be aware.
What has this to do with DeBeen Espresso?
We take your health and that of our planet seriously. We were at the forefront of veganism in High Point.
Veganism is good for your heart in two major ways: 1) reducing animal fat and protein that can clog blood vessels, and is often lower calorie to help reduce body fat, and 2) compassion for animals, or practicing nonharm. The latter is called “ahimsa” in yoga.
If you drink black coffee, tea and herbal blends, light Refresher drinks and bottled water, there are few to zero calories plus hydration. There can be positive effects on your gut health and overall constitution from kombucha. You’ll find herbs in many of our tea and fruit based drinks with wellness benefits, including for cardiac health.
Many of our prepared baked goods and snacks have a base of heart-healthy oats and nuts. None of our treats are fried, and we don’t add a lot of sugar. We want you to feel good with natural wellness!
In HP, we teach yoga next door at Pure Light Yoga. Yoga is renowned for relieving stress, improving circulation and lymph, breathwork that aids the lungs for oxygenated blood, and meditation to soothe the nervous system and mind. Yoga helps alleviate anger and frustration, and aids recovery from trauma and addiction.
You may hear about living yoga "off the mat" for compassion and serenity or at least greater calm. You become part of an emotional support system, bonding with people who care. Less isolation also helps to improve heart health. We often practice "heart opening" poses with physical, emotional, and mental benefits.
With all the fun of Valentine's Day, thinking pink and romance in Feb, it's helpful to take a moment to consider the serious side. Cardiac health is dear to our hearts at DeBeen and Pure Light Yoga.
We want our customers and community to be happy and healthy! We greet you with a smile, and hope you leave and return smiling. Which is great for all our hearts!
