As tragedy strikes - ACTION is taken by our NDGW Childrens Foundation Committee!
> A need to help students who have lost their homes in the horrendous firestorms in Southern California came to our attention. One school - Loyola High School in Los Angeles - has 175 students who have lost homes.
An emergency grant was provided by our NDGW Childrens Foundation to purchase new socks, underwear, pajamas, and t-shirts so the students in need could "shop" and select what they would like.
The community responded with donations of their own, but the Committee felt that "new" items would make students more comfortable selecting.
If you view the video in the attached article - you'll see items being wheeled on a cart. Those are some of what the NDGW Childrens Foundation emergency grant was able to provide.
**Note - the Childrens Foundation had a specific contact and knew specific needs IN THIS CASE.
Generally, the best way to help the survivors of disasters is through a financial donation or gift cards through a trusted non-profit. Do not send "stuff" - since storing and organizing donations takes up space and personnel who are better used battling the fires, evacuating people, as well as sheltering and feeding firefighters and other personnel from outside the area.
Gift cards and financial donations allow the survivors the dignity of purchasing what they need at a given time, as well as helping the community recover because the funds are being spent locally.
Thank you for your spirit and generosity. The need (unfortunately) will still exist weeks and months from now.
Loyola High alumni and students donated so many items for fire victims that the school could share them with students impacted and others in need.
