Why don’t we call ourselves “medical aestheticians”?
Of all people, we could. We’ve spent years in this industry—managing and co-owning a medical spa, training for a national laser company, educating providers, and working alongside doctors and nurses. But here’s the truth: there is no such thing as a medical aesthetician license.
Here’s what matters:
✨ You are a licensed esthetician, cosmetologist, nurse, PA, NP, or physician.
✨ You can earn diplomas or certificates as additional education.
✨ Some states have “advanced” or “master” esthetician licenses, but “medical aesthetician” is not a legal designation.
This is why it’s so important for providers to understand their credentials—and for clients to be aware of them too. Misrepresentation is serious. A white coat or a title does not equal a medical degree.
At IOMA, we offer Diplomas in Medical Aesthetics and Aesthetic Lasers—designed to bridge the gap between esthetics and medicine. Because we are a private licensed school, our programs are regulated and held accountable—unlike many certificate courses that have no oversight at all.
Education matters. Clarity matters. Credentials matter. ✔️
