Couple of weeks ago, we gathered as a collective—Reconnecting. Reimagining. Recommitting.
Every conversation, every shared laugh, every idea sparked was a step forward.
This is what community looks like. This is what purpose feels like.
The Society of Clotilda Giving Circle retreat reminded us of the power we hold when we come together to uplift Black women and girls in our community.

Society of Clotilda is a joyful health and wellness collective that is dedicated to the celebration, development, and prosperity of Black Women and their children. Our vision is to reduce the high rates of trauma, domestic violence, depression and sexual assault due to global-systemic racism, poverty and interpersonal sabotage at the hands of the criminal justice system by building a new community practice rooted in joy and empowerment.
What Are We Doing
This is unlike anything you’ve seen before, a social enterprise that mixes Mardi Gras and Black Girl Magic to solve a public health crisis. Rooted in deep joy, Society of Clotilda is a parade experience centered on black women that uses its proceeds to support our national wellness programs for black women and their children. With thousands of monthly subscribers, we will connect black women online and in-person with actionable tools to take command of their lives and their communities’ financial and emotional health.
Why Are We Doing This
We believe that you can tell a lot about a society by the way it treats its women and children. Looking at the data around the health and wellness of black women and their children, we began to see a horrific picture that, when compounded by decreased public funding, would only get worse. Our founders began to imagine a way that we - as fellow black women - could help one another while not adding more to our already overburden shoulders. We knew it needed to be fun and joyful and for us, that means Mardi Gras!
