Medicaid open enrollment! 🎉
For all of you that have Medicaid coverage with Amerihealth, Humana, or Molina and have been patiently waiting to come to our practice, be on the look out!

Medicaid letters are being sent NOW to switch payors early!
What this means; early open enrollment ONLY applies to those who get a letter in the mail or the Ohio Self Service Portal. If a letter is not received, you may not be eligible for the early switch and will have to wait until November 1st.

We are so excited and cannot wait to welcome your family to Little Legends! Don't wait too long because November 30th is the deadline to make the switch for the next year!

PSA: Do you keep Benadryl (diphenhydramine) in your medicine cabinet just in case your child has an allergic reaction? Well, here's another nail in the Benadryl coffin.
https://www.worldallergyorganizationjournal.org/action/showFullText?pii=S193945512500002X

Diphenhydramine hasn't been recommended for children 5 and under since 2008 in the U.S, but we continue to see it used in homes, urgent cares, and ERs all around the country despite newer, safer recommendations.
Many countries (with higher-ranked health outcomes than the U.S.) have banned it's use or made it prescription only. Second generation antihistamines such as loratadine or cetirizine work just as quickly and as good or better at controlling allergic reactions and are MUCH safer! They're also comparably priced, but who can put a price on a child's safety!

Friendly reminder - our office policies are available on our website. We highly encourage you to read them first and make sure we will be a good fit for your family!

While we will provide care for EVERYONE, our office chooses not to sign school or physical forms for un/under-vaccinated children if the form states anything to the effect of, "...child is free from all communicable diseases". If this is not on your form, Dr. Gravitt will usually complete it

Thank you for your understanding,
Little Legends Team

School's out! 🥳 The summer will be gone before you know it. I highly encourage parents to get school and sports physicals scheduled before mid-July to beat the rush. Every year people seem to wait until the end of summer and then scramble to find last-minute schedule availability. Save yourself some hassle and frustration; schedule now! 🌞⏳
If you've been waiting to make the switch, this makes the perfect time!
Have fun and be safe this summer!

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE...
Hello there, patient families, friends, followers, and sponsors! I just want to send out another PLEA for your support. If you've seen our fundraising page recently, you know that we've only raised 1.8% of our goal. We deeply and sincerely appreciate everyone who has so graciously donated thus far!
However, we still need help. Year-to-date, we are averaging about $9,000 in shortcomings per month, and that's without me taking any pay for myself.
Emily, my medical assistant, has GENEROUSLY offered to volunteer her medical assistant services without pay for as long as she can financially manage, so that the business can try to get ahead. I was forced to drop employee benefits for the time being, and personally, I haven't had a paycheck since January 2024.
Most don't realize the seasonality of pediatrics, but we are entering the slowest time of year from May to July. Things will pick up drastically at the middle of July with back-to-school and sports physicals and likely stay busy through September then only slow down a little in October/November before cold and flu season picks up.
For the time being, though, in addition to a $9000 bill for vaccines that is due in a few weeks, we need to purchase about $20-25,000 more vaccine to be ready for that back-to-school rush, and we simply do not have the funds. My bank won't give us any more money until we are profitable, and the loan contract says we can't take any other lines of credit, so my hands are tied.
It costs an average of $125 per business hour to run the practice, without paying the doctor, and we're currently generating about 60% of that, which isn't half bad for just 7 months in business. Again, we would have been in a better position had our opening not been delayed 7.5 months, but it is what it is, and here I am, HUMBLING myself before you.
I know that times are financially straining and most people reading this are not in a position to give, but if you can't, please just share with as many people as you can, and if you have an outstanding bill from us, please try to get it paid as soon as you can.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR LIKING, SHARING, AND DONATING IF YOU CAN! Just click this link for the donation page: http://spot.fund/12j6p1rsc

The next set of reno pics...The reception area. The amount of floor leveler needed in this area was ridiculous! Honestly, at some point, the whole floor and joists need to be replaced/sistered, but we didn't have the time or budget. New flooring replaced the carpets, paint, welcome logo, new entry door and framing, and new lighting. Kept the old barn wood for nostalgia...according to a former owner, it came from a local barn that was torn down in the 1970s. And I love the mantle for decorating!

It's not every day someone randomly walks into my office and makes me fight back tears or speechless.
From one business owner to another, I want to take a moment to publicly thank someone who truly exemplifies integrity, generosity, and community spirit.

This afternoon, Jim Bartlett of Bartlett Snow and Ice Removal made the incredible gesture of returning the funds we paid them for services this year — not because he had to, but because he wanted to help our business succeed during a challenging time. That kind of support is rare, and it speaks volumes about the kind of person and professional he is!

Running a small business takes grit, heart, and often a little help from others who understand the journey. This act of kindness reminds me that we’re not in this alone — we’re part of a community that lifts each other up!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Your generosity won’t be forgotten, and I look forward to the day I can pay it forward!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! I hate to upstage our fundraising campaign, but this is more important! Measles has been confirmed in Knox County right next door to Morrow Co (there is also an outbreak in Ashtabula Co and 2 probable cases in Erie Co)! Thus far, all confirmed Ohio cases have been in unimmunized individuals.
-PLEASE make sure that you or your children over the age of 12 months are up to date on their measles vaccine (1 dose at 12-15 months old and a second dose at 4-6 years old). If your child has had their 1st or 4th birthday, I would recommend scheduling their dose as soon as possible, even if they are not starting kindergarten, yet.
-The measles vaccine is 93% effective at preventing measles after 1 dose, and 97% after the second dose, and is the only known way to prevent the illness.
-Measles had been declared eradicated in the U.S. in 2000 but has since come back in waves. In order to maintain herd immunity, vaccination rates need to remain above 95% of the population. Unfortunately, the most recent 2024 data put Ohioans at 91.5% of eligible persons.
-Measles is the most contagious virus known to man. 90% of unimmunized individuals who encounter a measles carrier will contract the illness.
- The average hospitalization rate is 20% (last year in Ohio it was 40%), and approximately 3 out of 1000 people who get it will die even with medical care. Children under 5 years old are the most at risk.
- Measles takes 7-10 days after exposure to present with symptoms
- Initial symptoms look like a common cold (runny nose, cough, fever) with red, watery eyes. The rash does not appear for 3-4 days after the cold symptoms. One earlier definitive sign is the presence of white spots inside the cheeks near the molars called Koplik spots (however, these do not appear in all individuals).
-Measles is contagious for 4 days before the rash appears and 4 days after, so it is often spread before the diagnosis is known.

***While I do not turn away unimmunized patients, given the current outbreak, if your child is not immunized against measles and needs an appointment for runny nose, cough, fever, and red watery eyes, we will be referring them the nearest Pediatric ER or Urgent Care rather than seeing them in the office so that they can be tested and isolated if necessary.
***I will not be entertaining this post as a forum for anti-vaccine discussions or politics, but if you are on the fence about vaccines, please schedule an appt and I would be happy to discuss them with you in great detail (often a 45-60 min appointment).
- One of the best immunization information resources I have found is Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Vaccine Education Center, which can be found at this link:
