Are you getting enough sleep? Proper sleep hygiene is an important part of your overall health but it’s especially important for your brain. This list from gives you a good list of symptoms to look out for to see if you need to catch a few more Z’s. And for targets: at least 1 hour of deep sleep (you can see on an Apple Watch or Oura Ring or other wearable, or in a sleep study), at least 1.5 hours of REM sleep, and 7-8.5 hours of total sleep, all with oxygen saturation of >92%, preferably >94%, without apneic spells or desaturations.

Let’s get to the root of insulin resistance, and not just mask it with blood sugar medication.

If you are looking to reverse insulin resistance, here are 5 things to start with:

1. Dramatically reduce your consumption of refined carbohydrates and ultra-processed foods in favor of healthy fats to get into a ketotic state.

2. Exercise, exercise, exercise. Start with daily walks and lifting weights.

3. Consider supplementing with berberine, quercetin, and omega-3s with DHAs like fish oil.

4. Look at your fasting insulin level, not just your fasting glucose level when going to the doctor.

5. Consider using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) to gain knowledge and control over your personal insulin functionality.
