Our Transition Team took a tour of a new program called My Launch Pad Academy (MLPA) in Fairfield last week! MLPA prepares people with disabilities to step confidently into their future. Through real-world experiences and skills training in a supportive campus environment, MLPA empowers explorers to thrive in work, relationships, and everyday life. SSA Supervisor Beth Risner said the Transition Team thoroughly enjoyed taking a look inside the program and what it offers!

"This program focuses on real-life skills, which are so important to those we serve," Beth said. "My Launch Pad creates opportunities for independent social connection, and for students to grow, achieve, and thrive! On the tour, we also learned that the program offers classes such as finance, budgeting, technology, retail development, VR exploration, hospitality, culinary arts, music arts, custodial services, and language and communication. Thank you, My Launch Pad Academy, for letting us visit and for teaching us so much about a program that will definitely benefit those with developmental disabilities in our community!"

Last week, Hamilton Safety Town had camp devoted to kids with developmental disabilities who might not have enjoyed the course during the standard Safety Town sessions.

Children were accompanied by their parent or caregiver and particular attention was given to things that could be overwhelming like big sounds.

These safety extraordinaires had a fun week while learning about safety on the road, during a fire, when around strangers and so much more.

Congratulations to SSA II Debbie Mitchell for being selected for this month's Employee Shoutout Spotlight!

SSA Lead Katie Yount said, “Over the past few months (since April), our team has been down several SSAs, and there has been a lot of work needing to be covered. Debbie agreed to complete a revision to the plan for one individual to go to Inspiration Studios' new wellness program. They liked her so much, they called and asked for her help with adding HPC to their daughter's plan. Debbie asked me if another SSA had been assigned, and when she learned no one had been assigned yet, without being asked, she said, ‘I'll take care of it.’ She truly is a team player!”

Way to go above and beyond for those we serve, Debbie!

If you would like to send a BCBDD Employee Shoutout, please email Cassie Mattia at cqmattia@butlerdd.org.

Only 3 days after the 35th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, we celebrated another milestone for accessibility in Butler County with the unveiling of universal changing tables distributed at key locations throughout the county.

Universal changing tables (UCTs) are specialized equipment designed to provide a safe and dignified space for changing individuals of all ages and abilities, including those with disabilities or medical needs, who may not be able to use standard bathroom facilities.

Up until now, there were no publicly accessible UCTs in the county. Thanks to a grant that we secured, we purchased 10 UCTs and gifted them to community partners spanning the entire county.

It’s easy to take for granted something so simple as having a public restroom available to you. For many of the people we support, these universal changing tables will profoundly impact their ability to spend time in their community with dignity. We are grateful to our partners who are helping us by adding this resource and therefore creating better opportunities for Butler County residents to access our community.

Those partners include: MetroParks of Butler County Fitton Family Y, MidPointe Library System, Spooky Nook Sports Champion Mill, and Inspiration Studios, Locations not yet open include: City of Oxford, Ohio Administration, The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields and also for private use, Easterseals

Many thanks the West Chester Liberty Chamber Alliance for making this ribbon cutting so special and thank you also to Travel Butler County, Ohio who has worked hard this year to expand accessibility for visitors to the county.
