The goals of Lotus & Elm are to ensure mothers feel comfortable and secure in their birth choices, to help develop pain tolerance for natural birth but also to support the choice of pain relief. The goal is to teach mothers and partners how to ease pain via massage, essential oils and more, but most importantly to give mothers the peace of mind that they are making the right choice for their labor

process. Having multiple certifications means that Lotus & Elm can be a long-term support not only during your labor and birth, but also during your breastfeeding journey and as you heal postpartum.

Oh the positions you can use! Did you know pushing on your back isn't the only way to labor? Thankfully the birth movement has really explored and shown research behind laboring in various positions helps with labor progression and if baby is in a wonky position.

My favorite labor position to assist with is hands and knees because I can easily do hips compressions and t**h shimmies to ease mama's pain.

What's a position you felt helped most during your labor?

The absolute CONFIDENCE when you get a call from a client (also friend/fellow doula) that says "hey I think baby is on the way" so you get last minute stuff together and wait for the -at the hospital- call. But INSTEAD you get "hey she's here!" At home, by mom, with absolute confidence and peace! Praising Jesus all morning long on my drive to their house to do basic postpartum checks before they went for the "official" check.

I'm not gonna lie, I cried both in pride and sadness that I missed it. But Lord, I am in awe of being confident of her knowledge and her peace with herself.

Isnt she lovely?

today our is a little touchy. Did you know you can opt out of medical things during your pregnancy?

You don't have to do the gestational diabetes test/drinks, there are other options.

You don't have to do ultrasounds

You don't have to do all the swabs, tests and baby shots.

You CAN voice your opinion. You CAN stand your ground. You CAN do your own research for what is best for YOUR baby. You CAN hire a doula to help.

It's SO hard to wait for your baby to be born. You are tired, your body hurts, you want to meet this little human you've been growing. There are so many emotions at the end of pregnancy. But your baby will be born at their perfect time.

let's talk snacks! Pregnancy and postpartum make you RAVENOUS. Like you could eat and eat and never be full. Snacking is such a good thing for pregnancy. During the first trimester, it can help keep nausea at bay, 2nd trimester snacking gives you the nutrients to help baby grow, and 3rd trimester, it helps give you that energy boost to get to and through labor.

Not to mention, snacking during postpartum whether you breastfeed or not is so so important to help replace those carbs you are burning getting up with baby and healing.

What are some of your favorite go to snacks for pregnancy and/or postpartum?

Super fun question, if your baby was named after your cravings what would their name be?
D would be ice cream
L would be pickles 🤣🤣🤣

Alot of doctors try to tell moms that their pelvis is too small to birth their babies. Your body is not going to grow a baby that is "too big". You may just need additional positions, back pushing may not work as well as being on hands and knees.

did you know sometimes all your body needs for that little boost is walking? Yes, we walk all the time, haha, but I mean intentional exercise walking. Whether it's around your block, at a park, or even at the mall (do people do that anymore)?

try reaching out to other pregnant mamas or just your friends to see if they would be willing to form a walking group. Building a village is essential for pregnancy and motherhood. Walking groups are something that can easily transition from pregnancy to postpartum to park days with your children.

beautiful mamas!
Pregnancy can be so hard on our skin that our bodies turn their focus on growing baby and sending all the nutrients to the baby that our skin is left hanging (sometimes literally)

Did you know there's skincare that isn't safe during pregnancy?! Natural skincare is always recommended, but especially during pregnancy, you have to be careful of the ingredients.

It's hard when you just want to feel like yourself and have glowing skin but also grow a healthy baby. Drop suggestions below for fellow mamas!
