Navigating the Holidays in Eating Disorder Recovery 🌟
Lived Experience from ViaMar Health Alumni & Families
The holiday season can be beautiful—but for many in eating disorder recovery, it can also be overwhelming. What’s meant to feel festive can sometimes bring stress, triggers, or the urge to withdraw. 💛
At ViaMar Health, we understand because our alumni and families have lived it too. Some days are joyful, some are heavy—and all of them are valid. What we’ve learned is that support, connection, self-compassion, and community can make the biggest difference during the holiday season.
👉 In our newest blog, alumni and families from the ViaMar Health Alumni Program share 10 powerful, lived-experience strategies to help you move through the holidays with intention, grounding, and care.
Here’s a glimpse of what they share:
✨ Creating a supportive game plan with loved ones
✨ Letting go of perfection and embracing flexibility
✨ Finding your “safe spot” during gatherings
✨ Wearing what makes you comfortable
✨ Keeping familiar snacks on hand
✨ Finding meaningful moments that aren’t centered around food
✨ Building an exit strategy when things feel overwhelming
✨ Using your recovery tools and affirmations
✨ Staying present—and pacing yourself
✨ Staying connected to support through every step
💛 “We don’t have to navigate this season alone.”
With compassion, communication, and a willingness to care for yourself, the holidays can be not just manageable—but meaningful.
If you or a loved one is in recovery, we hope this guide helps you feel seen, supported, and understood. 💙
