We love when our team can connect with local organizations to share insight, encouragement, and real stories of recovery.
Here’s our latest collaboration:

Our Director of Alumni Services, Julia Giltner, recently joined the Zionsville Alliance for Mental Wellness (Zamwell) to share the story of what first triggered her eating disorder and the insights that shaped her recovery.
Before entering the behavioral health field, Julia spent nine years teaching elementary music in the Zionsville community, privately navigating her eating disorder during that time. Being invited back to speak with Zamwell offered a meaningful opportunity to name what she once carried silently and to offer hope to others who may feel alone.
In the episode, Julia reflects on how community, a strong support system, and a balanced treatment team are critical in recovery, even when those pieces aren’t always in place at the start. Her lived experience now strengthens her work with alumni, bringing authenticity, understanding, and hope to those on their own recovery journey.

This collaboration between ViaMar Health and Zionsville Alliance for Mental Wellness brings together lived experience, professional insight, and practical guidance for individuals and families seeking support.

Sharing a really powerful story today from Moonshadow’s Spirit about one of our ViaMar alumni, Ursula W, who was chosen as their 126th scholarship recipient.
Her recovery journey has been intense....decades of anorexia, a cancer diagnosis, and even a coma and heart attack, but with treatment and support she found her way back and is choosing life every day.
“Life is a gift… a gift I will not take for granted ever again.”
Congratulations to Ursula for receiving this scholarship! We are proud of all your work in recovery.

Navigating the Holidays in Eating Disorder Recovery 🌟
Lived Experience from ViaMar Health Alumni & Families
The holiday season can be beautiful—but for many in eating disorder recovery, it can also be overwhelming. What’s meant to feel festive can sometimes bring stress, triggers, or the urge to withdraw. 💛
At ViaMar Health, we understand because our alumni and families have lived it too. Some days are joyful, some are heavy—and all of them are valid. What we’ve learned is that support, connection, self-compassion, and community can make the biggest difference during the holiday season.
👉 In our newest blog, alumni and families from the ViaMar Health Alumni Program share 10 powerful, lived-experience strategies to help you move through the holidays with intention, grounding, and care.
Here’s a glimpse of what they share:
✨ Creating a supportive game plan with loved ones
✨ Letting go of perfection and embracing flexibility
✨ Finding your “safe spot” during gatherings
✨ Wearing what makes you comfortable
✨ Keeping familiar snacks on hand
✨ Finding meaningful moments that aren’t centered around food
✨ Building an exit strategy when things feel overwhelming
✨ Using your recovery tools and affirmations
✨ Staying present—and pacing yourself
✨ Staying connected to support through every step
💛 “We don’t have to navigate this season alone.”
With compassion, communication, and a willingness to care for yourself, the holidays can be not just manageable—but meaningful.
If you or a loved one is in recovery, we hope this guide helps you feel seen, supported, and understood. 💙

We are incredibly proud to shine a light on our Director of Outreach, Joe Fiorello, whose dedication and heart embody everything we stand for at ViaMar Health.

Not only does Joe lead our outreach efforts with unwavering passion, but he brings his own lived experience to the table. Having overcome recovery himself, he now helps others take courageous steps forward. He extends that same compassion to another calling close to his heart: giving retired and needy racehorses a new lease on life through his work with River Run Race Horse Retirement. https://riverrunracehorseretirement.com/

Recently, Joe made headlines: at the Sunshine State Stakes at Sunshine Meadows Equestrian Village, he took the reins and guided the filly Prairie Puma to victory, marking his first driver win for purse money, after years of dedication, growth and hard work.
U.S. Trotting News- https://ustrottingnews.com/fiorello-stars-in-sunshine-stakes/

His journey is a powerful reminder of how commitment, resilience and community can change lives, both human and equine. When Joe says, “These horses give their heart and soul and I want to give mine right back to them!”, he means it, and we’re honored to have him on our team.

Please join us in giving Joe a huge round of applause and thanking him for all that he does, whether it’s helping folks find strength, or helping a horse find a new home. You make us proud, Joe.

🐾💙 September is National Service Dog Month — and we’re celebrating our very own Coco at https://viamarhealth.com/
Meet Coco Klinedinst, our beloved therapy dog here at ViaMar Health. Born on July 15, 2022, Coco quickly revealed her natural gift for emotional support, and she’s been an integral part of our therapeutic community ever since.
With her calm demeanor and gentle presence, Coco has an uncanny ability to connect with both adults and adolescents. Whether she’s offering quiet strength during a psychodrama, providing a reassuring nuzzle in a breakthrough moment, or cuddling close after a tough session, Coco knows exactly how to bring comfort when it’s needed most.
But Coco isn’t all work. She thrives on attention, never turns down a round of pets, and happily soaks up every standing ovation she earns. Her gentle energy creates a safe and welcoming space where healing begins and hearts open.
This National Service Dog Month, we honor Coco and all service and therapy dogs who bring light, love, and healing into people’s lives every day. 🐶💫

Freedom, Confidence, Self-Love: A Declaration of Healing
From the voices of teens and their families in our Family program.
A Recovery Declaration of Independence
During today’s Via Mar’s Family Program: https://viamarhealth.com/family-programs/, adolescents and their loved ones came together to create something beautiful and empowering: a Recovery Declaration of Independence, a word cloud representing the undeniable rights they are reclaiming as they heal from their eating disorders.
The larger the words, the more frequently that right was claimed.
The most shared desires?
• To self-acceptance and self-love
• To eat what I like
• To appreciate and love my body
• To have confidence
• To feel and show my emotions
This powerful exercise reminded everyone in the room what recovery is really about - not just food or behaviors, but rediscovering freedom, joy, connection, and the right to be fully themselves.
Let this image be a daily reminder:
You have a right to happiness, mental peace, and to live your life to the fullest.
And you’re not alone in working toward it.
