⚠️ PSA: stop using Neosporin and hydrogen peroxide for your cuts! ⚠️

Dr. Cori Rogers, WakeMed Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, is here to tell us why you should skip this first aid go-to the next time you experience a minor cut or bruise.

➡️ In most cases, it’s best to clean a cut/wound with antibacterial soap and water. Hydrogen peroxide may impede wound healing and irritate the skin.
➡️ The best way to help heal a cut is to apply ample amounts of petroleum jelly, which has been shown in studies to have the same efficacy as Neosporin without the risk of allergic contact dermatitis (neomycin can be extremely allergenic).
➡️ And finally, it’s never a good idea to let a wound “air out." Wounds need moisture for healing and bandages protect the area from further infection.

🍼 Have more milk than your baby needs? Share the gift of life! 💛

The WakeMed Mothers’ Milk Bank provides hundreds of thousands of ounces of pasteurized donor milk to premature and NICU infants — babies who depend on it during their most fragile moments.

We rely on the generosity of parents who take the time and effort to donate. If you're already an approved donor and able to give, your milk can truly be their miracle. ❤️

Help us keep our freezers stocked and our mission going. Learn more at 🔗 wakemed.org/milkbank

🎉 Celebrating 20 Years of Emergency Care🚨

This month, we honored two decades of dedication, teamwork and compassion at our North Hospital emergency department with a special gathering for our current and former staff. The North ED opened in July 2005, as North Carolina’s first stand-alone emergency department. Now serving more than 50,000 patients annually, the North ED serves as the anchor for WakeMed North Hospital and continues to expand, innovate and provide quality, compassionate care to residents of northern Wake County and beyond.
❤️🏥
Thank you to the countless number of individuals, from clinicians to support staff, who have served in our emergency department over the past 20 years. We are grateful to all who have been part of this journey.

Ladies — your menstrual cycle isn’t just about your period. It’s a complex monthly journey made up of four distinct phases — each with its own hormonal shifts, symptoms, and purpose. 💫🩸

Dr. Chantel Roedner, WakeMed OB-GYN, guides us through it all:

1️⃣ Menstrual Phase: The first day of your period and lasts about 3-7 days.
2️⃣ Follicular Phase: Begins on the first day of your period and ends at ovulation.
3️⃣ Ovulatory Phase: Typically happens around day 14 of a 28-day cycle.
4️⃣ Luteal Phase: Lasts from about day 15 to day 28.

Not every menstrual cycle is the same, and understanding your cycle is a powerful step toward understanding you! 🩺 Learn more in our latest WakeMed blog 👉 https://ow.ly/JWJH50Wks7W
