Wondering what this might be?

Spider web? Candy? Syrup?

Nope! It’s our a fascia that I always talk about. This is what it actually looks like inside our body!

Fascia is a thin, strong, and flexible web of connective tissue that wraps around and through almost every structure in your body, muscles, bones, nerves, blood vessels, and organs. Think of it like an internal “bodysuit” made mostly of collagen fibers. It provides support, structure, and separation while also allowing tissues to slide smoothly against each other.

Trauma and grief can affect fascia in surprisingly physical ways — your body doesn’t separate “emotional pain” from “physical state” as much as we like to think.

Trauma and grief can cause the fascia to become tight, dehydrated, and less flexible. Emotional stress keeps the nervous system in a heightened state, which tenses muscles and pulls the fascia with them. Over time, this tension gets “locked in,” reducing movement and sometimes causing pain.

Grief can also alter posture (like rounded shoulders or a collapsed chest), and fascia molds to those positions. Because fascia is full of sensory nerves, it can become hypersensitive, making the body feel sore or heavy. These patterns can hold “body memories” of emotional events, which is why releasing fascia through bodywork can sometimes bring both physical relief and emotional release.

So yes massage is a key component to releasing fascia. It’s not about deep tissue massage or deep pressure, but allowing to let go, and that’s exactly where I come in to help.

Ever wonder why I always talk about your occipitals? Here is why!

Now I focus mostly on your sub-occipitals which are located at the base of your skull, but here is more information on both areas! Read further!

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the calf is seen as the “second heart” because it helps pump blood back to the heart, preventing blood from pooling in the lower body. As people age, leg strength becomes crucial for longevity and preventing falls, especially in the elderly.

How does massage help?

1. Improves Blood Circulation

Massage stimulates the calf muscles, helping blood flow back toward the heart—especially important for people with poor circulation or those who sit or stand for long periods.

2. Prevents Blood Pooling & Varicose Veins

By encouraging venous return, massage reduces the risk of blood pooling in the lower legs, which helps prevent or manage varicose veins and swelling (edema).

3. Relieves Muscle Tension & Pain

Tight calves can restrict movement and blood flow. Massage relaxes the muscles, easing tension, cramps, and discomfort from overuse or fatigue.

4. Supports Lymphatic Drainage

Gentle calf massage can help drain excess lymphatic fluid, reducing swelling and supporting immune health.

5. Aids Elderly and Immobile Individuals

For people who struggle to walk or exercise regularly, massage can simulate muscle movement, helping maintain circulation and prevent stiffness. As always, I suggest a full body massage because: “it is where it ain’t”

07/13/2025

✅ Why it works:

Placing an ice pack under the arms can help stimulate the vagus nerve, which plays a key role in regulating the parasympathetic nervous system (your body’s “rest and digest” response).

• The vagus nerve runs near the neck and upper chest area and is involved in calming the heart rate and reducing stress responses.

• Cold exposure can help interrupt the “fight or flight” (sympathetic) response and shift the body toward a calmer parasympathetic state.

✅ How it helps:

Rapid vagus nerve stimulation can lead to:

• Decreased heart rate
• Slower breathing
• A calmer, more grounded emotional state
• Especially effective during panic attacks, acute anxiety, or emotional overwhelm.

So give it a try!!

06/27/2025

When trauma is not addressed or processed, it can have wide-reaching effects on both the body and mind, often in ways people don’t immediately connect to the original trauma. Here’s how unprocessed trauma can manifest:

🧠 Mental and Emotional Effects:

1. Anxiety and Panic Attacks: The nervous system stays in a heightened state of alert (fight-or-flight mode), even when danger is no longer present.

2. Depression: Repressed trauma can cause deep feelings of hopelessness, numbness, and disconnection from life or purpose.

3. Emotional Dysregulation: You may overreact to minor stressors or struggle to manage your emotions, swinging between anger, fear, or sadness.

4. Flashbacks or Intrusive Thoughts: The brain may replay traumatic memories involuntarily, sometimes even without conscious awareness of the source.

🧍‍♀️ Physical Effects

1. Chronic Stress & Inflammation:

Trauma activates the stress response (cortisol, adrenaline), and over time, this can lead to:
• Fatigue
• High blood pressure
• Increased inflammation
• Suppressed immune system

2. Tension and Pain in the Body:

The body may “store” trauma in muscles (especially the shoulders, neck, jaw, hips), leading to chronic pain, tightness, or digestive issues.

3. Sleep Disturbances:

Insomnia, nightmares, or poor-quality sleep are common, disrupting the body’s healing and regulation systems.

4. Somatic Symptoms:

Trauma can show up as:
• Headaches
• IBS or digestive disorders
• Autoimmune issues
• Unexplained aches or illnesses

🧠 Brain Function and Memory

• Trauma can impair the hippocampus (memory), amygdala (fear), and prefrontal cortex (decision-making). This makes it harder to concentrate, remember details, or feel safe.
• People may become “emotionally stuck” in the age or situation when the trauma occurred.

🧬 Long-Term Health Risks

Unresolved trauma is linked to serious long-term health conditions, including:
• Heart disease
• Diabetes
• Substance use disorders
• Autoimmune diseases
• Cancer (in some studies)

🌀 Behavioral & Social Effects

• Withdrawal or isolation
• Difficulty forming or maintaining relationships
• Addictions (alcohol, food, technology, etc.)
• Risky or impulsive behaviors
• People-pleasing or co-dependency patterns

🛠️ But There Is Hope

Healing is absolutely possible. Supportive approaches include:
• Therapy (especially trauma-informed therapy, EMDR, somatic experiencing)
• Body-based work (yoga, massage, breathwork)
• Mindfulness & self-compassion practices
• Safe social connections and support groups

So as you see if you do not deal with your trauma or grief, it will deal with you. Take control of your past and let your future flourish. Reach out with any questions you may have for booking with me or my certifications.

Did you know grief is not just about death?

Grief is fundamentally about attachment and loss, not just about death. It’s a natural emotional response when something meaningful is taken away. Each form of grief deserves compassion and acknowledgment, whether it’s for a person, a place, a phase of life, or even a sense of self.

How does booking with me help?

Being certified for trauma and grief massage therapy means there are areas of the body that can hold the grief if not properly dealt with. Knowing these areas of the body can help a client heal just a little bit better.

• Physical release of stored emotions
• Activates the Parasympathetic nervous system
• Helps the client get used to good touch again and learn nonverbal communication
• Reconnects the griever to their body
• Encourages sleep and reduces stress
• Honors the person’s grieving process

Massage doesn’t take the grief away, but it softens the suffering, allows emotions to move, and invites a person back to themselves. It’s a quiet, steady companion on a difficult road. On top of the trauma and grief massage, Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage is also recommended for someone who is grieving to help slow down the nervous system and cortisol levels.

🧠 Trauma comes in many forms—and all of them are valid. 💔

Trauma isn’t just about one-time events. It can stem from long-term abuse, loss, systemic injustice, or even experiences that others might not recognize as “traumatic.”

You don’t have to “prove” your pain.
Your story matters. Your healing matters. 💛

👐 Trauma shows up in the body and massage therapy can support healing. 💆‍♀️💆‍♂️

Trauma doesn’t always come from one obvious event. It can stem from:
🔹 Abuse or assault
🔹 Neglect or abandonment
🔹 Bullying, loss, or grief
🔹 Medical procedures or chronic pain
🔹 Systemic stress or generational trauma
🔹 War, natural disasters, and more

These experiences can leave lasting tension in the body.
Massage therapy offers a safe space to reconnect, release, and restore. 🌿

✨ Whether your trauma is physical, emotional, or both your experiences are valid, and so is your healing journey.

I welcome all clients of all backgrounds who are ready to start their healing journey! Please reach out with any questions you may have with my certifications of trauma and grief massage therapy!
