Children follow a natural progression or timetable for mastering the skills of speech and language! Children begin by babbling sounds and progress to sounds in words, phrases, sentences, and conversation! A checklist of milestones for the normal development of speech sounds is included below. If you notice that your child is not producing one or more sounds at the appropriate age, it may be time for a speech and language evaluation! 🤍💬

Communication really is amazing! Your child will develop so many skills before they even enter school. When reviewing these milestones remember your child’s development is unique and some variability is expected. But if you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s speech and language development it is ALWAYS a good idea to check in with your pediatrician or a speech language pathologist. Early intervention is to the advantage of your child and is supported by research. There is no harm in reaching out to a professional 💬
