✨ Staff Spotlight: Mary VanAlstyne, APRN ✨

Meet Mary, our Nurse Practitioner - Hospice Provider at North Country Home Health & Hospice Agency! Mary has been with us for more than three years working with a very talented team, delivering top-notch care to patient and families in need of end-of-life care and support.

Having always been passionate about end-of life-care and having been a healthcare professional for 35+ years, she I want to spread the word, that there IS such as there is a good death. Providing end-of-life care with the best symptom management to improve a patient's quality of life, no matter how long that may be, is invaluable to Mary and is why she chose a career in home health and hospice.

Mary and her husband love to cook and she always asks hospice patients if there is a particular meal that they would enjoy. On one occasion, she had a patient in who wanted speckled trout, which the patient explained was a very special saltwater fish that is only available from New Orleans to the Florida Panhandle. Mary’s daughter happened to live in New Orleans, so she asked her to ship them some fillets. They came up with a classic New Orleans recipe and went to the patient’s home on a weekend and all enjoyed a fabulous lunch. The family was eternally grateful and Mary felt so happy to have enjoyed the afternoon with them.

Her dream destination? ⛰ Right where she is! Mary finds that living on a granite mountain is very grounding and it gives her great peace and serenity to be surrounded by such beautiful forests. 🌲
