How I Helped My Client Improve Her Oxygen Levels During Training 🫁✨**

Recently, one of my clients came back from a trip where she had an allergic reaction to her environment. After returning, her O2 levels dropped into the high 80s and low 90s. While she worked with her doctor to get her inhaler prescription dialed in, we also tried using a carbohaler at a 3–5% mixture during her training sessions.

The results? Her O2 levels jumped up to 97%! Today, we tested it again during her workout—she started at 93% and, by using the carbohaler between sets, finished at 96%. Such a win for her energy, recovery, and confidence.

**Why does this work?**
It’s all about the Bohr and Haldane effects! When oxygen binds to hemoglobin (the Haldane effect), it causes hemoglobin to release more CO2 and hydrogen ions. This makes gas exchange in the lungs more efficient, helping your body get rid of excess CO2 and deliver oxygen where it’s needed most. The Bohr effect works in the opposite direction in tissues, helping oxygen unload from hemoglobin so your muscles can use it. Together, these effects keep your oxygen and CO2 in balance—crucial for anyone with breathing challenges, especially during exercise.

🔎Why do some people gain weight under stress? Stress lowers the metabolic rate. This is why the calories in calories out model is INCOMPLETE. It does not account for the inverse relationship of stress and thyroid function. High stress = Suppressed metabolic function. Healthy thyroid function = increased metabolic function. 🤯

💔During the Pandemic, I didn’t change much of what I was doing although, I know I wasn’t moving as much as I was when I had clients in person. I had put on Body Fat from 2020 -2023 DUE TO STRESS AND TRAUMA.

🧐When I looked back at my body fat measurements, there were two time periods where my weight and measurements jumped up. From February to May 2021, I gained 4 inches around my high hip and belly. 📏

📱Despite logging my food and ensuring I wasn’t consuming extra calories, this change occurred. According to the traditional “calories in, calories out” model, I would have needed to consume an EXCESS of 1000 calories a day, which I know I didn’t. 😳

💔😞I did however experience multiple losses, identity theft, and I was undergoing a complete reorganization of my company, while I was transitioning to a mostly online business due to the pandemic.

From November 15 2022, to January 7, 2023 I gained another 3.75 inches around my high hip and belly! 😱

I would have needed to eat an EXCESS of 1650 calories a day in order to justify that jump, but I know I didn’t! 🤬

In fact, after Thanksgiving that year I ate way less, and went several hours sometimes without eating because I was taking care of my dying grandfather and was eating foods I normally wouldn’t eat when I did eat. I experienced 4 significant losses in a span of weeks. 😭

I have been measuring my body fat for the last 5 years, but I have primarily been focusing on health over fat loss in order to heal my body. 💪 check the pics above to see the goals I successfully achieved.

Another 2.5 inches off of my waist in a week Eating more sugar... Ironically I caught a cold this week and made sure to take it easy, and rest a lot. Now to be fair, I was on my cycle from 2/11-2/16 so some of these results are likely due to the reduction in estrogen, but this is still MIND-BLOWING🤯

Calories In Calories Out? Not in the way you think.

These were my averages from 1/13 -2/9. I didn’t log my food while I was sick, but I ate beef stew, chicken noodle soup, lots of orange and grape juice, herbal tea + lots of honey, warm skim milk + 2-3 TBSP sugar, protein shakes with skim milk +casein + 2 TBSP sugar + salt, clean saltine crackers. In fact I know I even “over ate” (as far as calories go) a few days I was sick, especially because I wasn’t moving much.

Calories In Calories Out? According to Cronometer and my Apple Watch I was calculated on average to be in a 291 calorie deficit. 291 x 38 =11,058 1 lb of fat=about 3500 calories. 11,058/3,500=3.159 This means that if the calories in calories out model was correct, I would have lost about 3.16 lbs.

According to my measurements, I’ve lost about 17lbs of Body Fat. 17 x 3500=59,500 59,500/38=1,565.789 To get these results I would have needed to be, on average, in a 1,565.789 caloric deficit daily for the last 38 days 🤯
Sugar increases the metabolic rate.

Sugar gets a bad rep due to the fraud and confusion that has impacted the health, fitness, and medical industries since the 1940’s, however there are plenty of other doctors, nobel prize winning laureates and scientific researchers that disagree with the popular narratives and have even debunked popular theories that are treated as dogma.

🧠Want to learn more about the role stress plays in our health states and how healing your metabolism and 🥥thyroid function can restore you to thriving health? Check out my workshop on Saturday, March 15!

I lost 8.75” in a month eating more sugar 🍊

This is a vulnerable post, but I think it’s worth posting.

On january 9th, my coach Zachariah Salazar and I had a long discussion regarding my goals. 🥰

I have hit so many health and strength goals over the last 6 years that have been amazing, but I was really ready to start working on the fat loss goal. So we decided to switch things up a bit, and make fat loss the primary goal for this year. 💪

We decided it was time to go high carb, low fat and moderate to high protein. I will put up some other posts later on how trauma and stress affect the metabolic rate. 🥤🥩🍊

To be clear I increased simple carbs like juice, table sugar, maple syrup, and cut out starches significantly. 🍯

There’s a lot of confusion in the health and food industries, and a lot of influencers who speak with authority using scientific papers providing their evidence on whatever soap box they are standing on. Within this confusion SUGAR HAS GOTTEN A BAD REP.🚫

I have been measuring my body fat regularly for the last five years so the December date was just an arbitrary measurement day before the holiday season. I was likely a little fluffier after the new year as I went to several parties and just enjoyed the food. I probably got some unwanted PUFA’s and additives, but I was ok with that. 🎄

I technically started the shift on January 10th, and after the first week, I saw so many changes, I couldn’t believe it! So I measured early just to gather data. 😳🧐

Today 2/10 was the official one month 🤯 I couldn’t believe that I had lost 8.75” give or take, for sure since my last measurement day, as I said, I probably lost more because I was out of routine for the holidays.

This is why you want to work with a coach!
Most of the bad rep sugar gets is actually due to other things in the diet, and/or not getting enough nutrition in the calories being consumed 📣

🧠 The parietal lobe is the part of our brain responsible for multiple functions like:
- Feeling sensation 👋
- Mapping where things are in our environment 🗺️
- Navigating the environment 🚶‍♂️
- Maintaining attentional focus on relevant stimuli over time and ignoring unimportant stimuli 🎯
- Speech and word retrieval 🗣️
- Interpreting signals from vision, hearing, motor, sensory, and memory 👀👂
- Non-verbal memory recall 🧠
- Assisting with reading, writing, and mathematical calculations 📚✍️🧮

Because neurons that live next to one another affect one another, you can target areas in the brain to bring health into areas around them. Poor sensory accuracy could be contributing to other dysfunctions in the parietal lobe, like being easily distracted and having a hard time maintaining attention on certain tasks! 🤔

For the month of February, in my small group coaching programs, we will be focusing on targeting the Parietal Lobe with different sensory and vision drills to help with:
- Focus 🔍
- Pain relief 💆‍♀️
- Mobility 🤸‍♂️
- Strength 💪
- Dyslexia support 📖
- Clumsiness & Right/Left confusion 🤔
- Anxiety & Depression relief 😌

🌟 The Importance of Sodium in Our Diet 🌟

Did you know that reducing sodium intake can trigger the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), leading to hypertension, kidney disease, and more? 🧂🚫

Sodium restriction can also increase serotonin and sympathetic nervous system activity, contributing to stress-related issues like insomnia and even cancer. 😴💔

Many women crave salt and sugar around ovulation and premenstrually, similar to pregnancy cravings. 🌸👶 Increasing salt intake during these times can help prevent water retention and balance blood volume. 💧

A low-salt diet can disturb sleep, especially in older adults, and exacerbate aging problems by increasing sympathetic nervous system activity. 💤👵

Sodium, along with protein, thyroid, and progesterone, is thermogenic, boosting metabolism and stabilizing body temperature. 🌡️🔥

Remember, sodium stimulates energy metabolism, increases carbon dioxide production, and protects against inflammation and stress. 💪✨
