How I Helped My Client Improve Her Oxygen Levels During Training 🫁✨**
Recently, one of my clients came back from a trip where she had an allergic reaction to her environment. After returning, her O2 levels dropped into the high 80s and low 90s. While she worked with her doctor to get her inhaler prescription dialed in, we also tried using a carbohaler at a 3–5% mixture during her training sessions.
The results? Her O2 levels jumped up to 97%! Today, we tested it again during her workout—she started at 93% and, by using the carbohaler between sets, finished at 96%. Such a win for her energy, recovery, and confidence.
**Why does this work?**
It’s all about the Bohr and Haldane effects! When oxygen binds to hemoglobin (the Haldane effect), it causes hemoglobin to release more CO2 and hydrogen ions. This makes gas exchange in the lungs more efficient, helping your body get rid of excess CO2 and deliver oxygen where it’s needed most. The Bohr effect works in the opposite direction in tissues, helping oxygen unload from hemoglobin so your muscles can use it. Together, these effects keep your oxygen and CO2 in balance—crucial for anyone with breathing challenges, especially during exercise.
