Well, cholesterol education month may be coming to an end but you can continue to learn more about Lipid management and get CME credit. I was so honored to be a part of the faculty for this nurse practitioner, education and work alongside Dr. Lynn Braun. I hope the nurse practitioners out there find it useful. Today marks 10 years of the Arizona Lipid Center—
What a ride it’s been!
Over the past decade, this journey has been filled with adventures, challenges, and plenty of lessons.

There were bumps in the road, unexpected dead ends- times I had to circle back, make U-turns, and try a different path.
But as the saying goes: it doesn’t matter if you win or lose, it matters if you learn.
And I’ve learned so much along the way.
As I take a moment to reflect, what stands out most isn’t just the places I’ve been or the things I’ve done—
It’s the people
Some have been with me from the very beginning,
some even before the beginning,
others have joined more recently.
Each person has been part of this story in their own unique and valuable way, and for that, I’m deeply grateful.
So, where do we go from here?
The next chapter is wide open, and I’m excited to see what’s ahead.
Here’s to continued growth, new opportunities, and the amazing people who make this journey worthwhile.

Often times my patients are discouraged that they don’t see an improvement in their cholesterol after controlling their intake of dietary cholesterol. For most people 80% of the cholesterol circulating comes from the liver and only 20% is absorbed from the foods we eat. Instead, I encourage a heart healthy pattern of eating with a focus on lean proteins limiting saturated fats, non-starchy vegetables, whole grains. Now there is no one side. It’s all when it comes to health and wellness so it’s important to work with a provider that can personalize a plan for you based on your numbers and lifestyle. I was honored to speak on behalf of Family Heart Foundation at the recent AANP national conference and share the message that cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death, but that doesn’t need to be the case. Call to action- measure LDL cholesterol and Lipoprotein.(a) in everybody. As a result, this call to action was responded to and many of the nurse practitioners had their cholesterol and.Lp(a) checked in the exhibit hall❤️ 💪🏼🙌🏼

Berberine is a natural compound with many health benefits and is hands down the supplement I recommend most-

Some potential benefits of berberine:

Berberine has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and regulate blood glucose levels, making it beneficial for individuals with diabetes or prediabetes.

🔸Weight management:
Studies have suggested that berberine can help promote weight loss by improving metabolism and reducing fat accumulation.

🔸Gut health:
Berberine has antimicrobial properties that can help regulate the balance of gut bacteria, potentially improving digestive health and reducing the risk of gastrointestinal issues.

Berberine has been found to possess anti-inflammatory properties, which may be helpful in managing chronic inflammation-related conditions such as arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease.

Still have a few hours to go as I post this and I’ve been super tempted to quit- but I’m chomping on some chicken and shrimp cocktail- but broccolini isn’t exactly my idea of a snack 😅

FCS is a rare form of severe high triglycerides caused by genetic abnormalities affecting the way our body is able to process dietary fats. Until we have approved therapy the recommendation is to significantly reduce daily fats. And in some cases patient have to limit their fat to a total of 10 g per day Unfortunately, for those patients who have FCS dietary and discretions, could result in pancreatitis, which is potentially life-threatening. And even if they don’t have pancreatitis, they could have other symptoms as a result of their high triglycerides, including depression, fuzzy thinking, abdominal pain rashes. For most individuals a third of their calories should come from fat so to decrease it to this amount is significant. I’m already trying to plan how to accomplish this for just one day. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to do on a daily basis. 😱
