LDL isn’t just a lab number. It’s one of the key particles that helps build plaque in the artery wall over time, and lowering it lowers the risk of heart attack and stroke. LDL is tied to atherosclerosis across the life course, and lower LDL is associated with fewer events. In large randomized trial meta-analysis, more intensive LDL lowering produced about a 15% further reduction in major vascular events, and each 1.0 mmol/L LDL reduction was associated with about a 22% lower rate of major vascular events.
