RFK jr just made HUGE claims about the ketogenic diet treating Schizophrenia and Bipolar disorder. Since the media was having a field day trying to debunk the claim and a lot of people unfortunately still trust what TV and social media says, here's a bit of data to help you come to your own conclusion:
Here's a clinical study demonstrating the benefits of the ketogenic diet in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder -> https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38547601/
Is there evidence that it works? Yes.
Is it incredibly well-studied for this condition and demonstrated in massive phase III clinical trials? No. Not yet. But we do have preliminary evidence.
In addition to that:
Here's a study in which the ketogenic diet effectively treated epilepsy -> https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27027847/
Here's a study in which the ketogenic diet improved quality of life and daily function in patients with Alzheimer's Disease (degenerative brain disorder) -> https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33622392/
Here a study in which it improved mental state and cognitive function in patients with Alzheimer's Disease (degenerative brain disorder) -> https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1279770724003932
The keto diet achieved complete remission in depression and anxiety in all patients in this case series -> https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/nutrition/articles/10.3389/fnut.2024.1396685/full
Lastly, the keto diet was used in patients with multiple sclerosis (degenerative autoimmune brain disorder) and found to improve body composition, fatigue, depression, quality of life, neurological disability and adipose-related inflammation -> https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35418509/
This diet has also shown promise in treating obesity and Type II Diabetes.
Is it a magical cure-all? No. But it certainly has benefits worth further investigation and consideration.
