Dr. Friedman was recognized as Medscape's () Physicians of the Year: The Best of 2022 for his philanthropic campaign as President of American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS; ) establishing a national directory of board-certified physicians to aid s*x-trafficking survivors in their recovery process by remove branding tattoos pro bono under ASLMS New Beginnings: Tattoo Removal Program in collaboration with the National Trafficking Sheltered Alliance.

Dr. Friedman was also presented as Physician of the Year 2022 by The Vascular Birthmarks Foundation () for outstanding achievement in the diagnosis and treatment of children and adults affected by a vascular birthmark, anomaly, or associated syndrome.

Our lovely patient had microblading and permanent eyebrow tattoo performed which, over time, turned an undesirable yellow/ brown color. Using the 532-nm Picoway laser we were able to successfully remove the tattoo ink.

When approaching cosmetic tattoo removal, it is important to consider patient Fitzpatrick skin type as well as possible side effects including pigmentary alterations, paradoxical tattoo ink darkening, scarring, and unintended hair removal. Safe and effective removal of tattoos is especially important in cosmetically sensitive areas such as the face.

The picosecond laser may provide added benefit by minimizing the number of sessions, maximizing results, and increasing safety in patients who have undergone cosmetic or microbladed eyebrow tattoos. Picosecond lasers provide more efficient clearance of tattoos by optimizes selective photothermolysis with pulse durations that are less than the thermal relaxation times of black ink used in tattoos. This allows for picosecond pulses to be thermally confined, making it safer to treat tattoo ink in darker skin types while sparing the surrounding epidermis.

The additional use of the PFD patch serves as a heat sink, protecting the epidermis from thermal injury allowing safer removal of tattoos in patients with skin types IV–VI. It reduces scattering caused by laser‐induced cavitation bubbles allowing the laser energy to pe*****te deeper, and thus, more effectively target the tattoo ink resulting in better clearance.

Labial lentigines, also called labial melanotic macules, is a benign skin condition that is more common in individuals with darker skin. They most often appear during adulthood although they can develop at any age. Our patient above presented with labial lentigines that developed at nineteen years old. She underwent 4 treatment sessions utilizing the 755-nm QS Alexandrite laser and 1 session utilizing the 532-nm QS Nd:YAG laser.

Congratulations to on finishing her Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery fellowship year!! 🎉 We had a great year together completing over 2,000 laser & cosmetic cases, conducting meaningful pro bono work with vascular birthmarks and survivors of s*x trafficking and contributing to new advances in lasers and energy based devices with 4 new technologies in the office and 14 abstracts and publications. All of us at Dermatology & Laser Surgery Center are thrilled that Dr. Guo has joined our practice and is now accepting new patients!

The members and former presidents of this prestigious society have developed and optimized the incredible energy based technology that we all utilize on a daily basis to change lives with lasers. ASLMS is the world's largest professional and international organization dedicated to promoting research, education, and high standards of clinical care in the field of medical laser and energy-based applications.

One of my main initiatives in the upcoming year is a philanthropic campaign to establish a national directory of board-certified ASLMS members who volunteer their time and devices to remove branding tattoos pro bono to aid s*x-trafficking survivors in their recovery process.
