August is Overdose Awareness Month.

This month, and especially on International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31st, we come together to remember the lives lost to overdose, acknowledge the grief of their loved ones, and commit to taking action.

Overdose is a public health crisis that has impacted countless individuals and families in our communities. We know that these are not just statistics; they are people—our neighbors, friends, and family.

At Community Counseling Center, we are dedicated to reducing the stigma associated with substance use and providing the support and resources our communities need.

Overdose deaths are preventable, and everyone can play a part. This month, we encourage you to:

Learn: Educate yourself on overdose prevention and how to use life-saving tools like naloxone (Narcan).

Share: Help spread awareness about the resources available for substance use disorder treatment and recovery.

Remember: Honor those we have lost by sharing their stories and working toward a future without overdose.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please know that help is here. You are not alone.

Contact us to learn more about our services at 573-334-1100, or call or text the 24-hour crisis hotline at 988.

Community Counseling Center loves to support events in our communities that bring people together!

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who makes the Ste. Genevieve County Fair possible—from volunteers and sponsors to staff, vendors, participants, and community supporters.

Your time, effort, and dedication are what keep this tradition alive and thriving year after year. If you know anyone involved—whether they helped set up, worked behind the scenes, donated resources, or lent a helping hand in any way—please take a moment to thank them. Their work does not go unrecognized.

It takes a village to make the Fair a success, and we are incredibly proud of ours.
Thank you for being part of it! ❤️

Our team had a fantastic time at the Resources to Recovery Annual Conference in Ste. Genevieve yesterday! Christopher Schumacher and Kathryn Yex connected with attendees at this important event, which focused on the neuroscience behind addiction and recovery. The conference featured speakers like Laura Emmons, who spoke on "The Neuroscience of Addiction and the Healing Power of Connection," and Stacie Zelin, who explored "Full Circle: Exploring Connections between Substance Use and Mental Health."
While there, Christopher and Kathryn promoted our Su***de Prevention Awareness Ribbon campaign and shared information about our free QPR and Mental Health First Aid trainings this September. We're so proud to be a part of these crucial conversations!

Community Counseling Center (CCC) celebrated the completion of the new John A. Hudak Treatment Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday. Located at 1987 Rusmar Street, the facility will begin accepting clients as early as next week. The center is named in honor of former CCC Executive Director John A. Hudak, who led the organization for 23 years.
Over 30 guests attended the event, including Missouri State Representative Barry Hovis and representatives from the Missouri Department of Mental Health, Tracy Rion and Jennifer Street. The late John A. Hudak's sons, Jonathan and Jason Hudak, and their families were also present for the dedication.
In her remarks, CCC CEO Wendy Ice highlighted the role in providing intensive residential treatment. The facility will offer short-term diversion beds for up to 90 days, helping individuals with mental health or co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions transition back into the community or prevent placement in more restrictive settings. The project was made possible through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. Ice also recognized the State of Missouri, the Department of Mental Health, and the Missouri Behavioral Health Council for their commitment to supporting behavioral health infrastructure.
Ice noted that the idea for the facility began during Hudak's tenure. "John saw the need for this type of facility clearly," Ice said. "It’s a privilege to dedicate this building in memory of someone who made such a lasting impact on all of us—John A. Hudak." She described Hudak as the "heart of this organization" and emphasized his belief that "healing begins with connection," adding that naming the center after him is a promise to continue the work he cared so deeply about.
Jonathan Hudak offered remarks on behalf of his family, speaking about his father's legacy and the significance of the building being named in his honor. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was then conducted by representatives from the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce and the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce, after which attendees were welcomed inside for tours and refreshments.
