Occasionally, newborns are not ready to be laid down following a feeding session, which is a normal phenomenon.
They require warmth, the sound of a heartbeat, and often, motion. This is precisely why engaging the services of a postpartum doula is beneficial, as they provide care while the mother obtains restorative sleep.
As it happens, this infant's mother is breastfeeding, but she has been resting for the past half hour after nursing, while I have been attending to the baby's needs, including diapering, swaddling, burping, and gently rocking the baby to sleep.
The presence of postpartum doulas indeed makes a significant difference.
