All change happens in relationship. Our programs are grounded in a relational attachment-based model that leads to transformed lives and relationships.

In 2011, Michelle Mays founded the Center for Relational Recovery, a counseling and training center focused on providing leading edge treatment to s*x addicts, partners of s*x addicts, trauma survivors, and those struggling with relationship issues. The Center for Relational Recovery is grounded in the belief that all change happens in relationship and that our attachments to others are both the most meaningful and at times the most challenging parts of our lives. Michelle is a Certified S*x Addiction Therapist and Supervisor trained under Dr. Patrick Carnes. She is also trained in Post Induction Therapy by Pia Mellody for the treatment of relational trauma and is in the process of completing her certification in Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples. Michelle is a registered Supervisor with the state of Virginia and is Licensed as a Professional Counselor in both Virginia and Washington DC. Michelle is a member of the Society for the Advancement of S*xual Health, the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals, the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy, the American Counseling Association, and the Northern Virginia Licensed Professional Counselors Association. Prior to entering private practice, Michelle owned Envision Ideas Inc., a consulting business focused on strategic direction, branding and marketing. Prior to that she worked with a national crime victim assistance organization creating new programs and training materials and also spent several years working in the area of international relief and development.

Since 2011, the Center for Relational Recovery has provided counseling services to the Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland area, specializing in treating s*x addiction, partner betrayal trauma, childhood trauma, and relationship issues.⁠
⁠
And the Relational Recovery team of exceptional clinicians continues to provide that invaluable service to local clients who need our help!⁠

Over the past several years we have also been busy developing our sister organization PartnerHope where we offer coaching services to individuals and couples healing from adult s*xual betrayal in partnered relationships through michellemays.com.⁠

Now it is time for the next phase of our evolution! We have a new name, the Relational Recovery Institute, and along with that an expanded mission and purpose.⁠

In addition to serving our local clients, the Relational Recovery Institute will now also be serving our national and international audience through creating treatment models, providing a professional training and certification program, and offering new counseling intensives for individuals and couples.⁠
