DCD is one of two ways a person can become an organ donor after death. It happens after the heart stops and the patient is declared dead by their hospital team.

This process is complex, but at its heart, it’s about honoring the decision to donate, a patient’s legacy, and the power of saving lives.

The hospital and Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) follow strict protocols to ensure donation is safe, ethical, and handled with care.

Every step reflects compassion, generosity, and respect for all involved.
