One way I’ve found to help Control Stress is through creativity. For as long as I can remember, being creative has been a vital outlet for me.
My grandmother played a significant role in this; she taught me many crafts like sewing, embroidery, crocheting, and knitting. These moments with her were not just about learning a skill but about bonding, sharing stories, and finding peace in the rhythmic motions of our hands.
Life, as it often does, took me on a different path. After having children and then going through a divorce, I found myself with little time for my beloved crafts. My hands, once busy with threads and needles, were now full with the responsibilities of single motherhood.
Years later, life threw another challenge my way. My longtime boyfriend was diagnosed with cancer. The stress was immense, and I often found myself sitting with him during doctor’s appointments and hospital stays.
In those long hours of waiting, I felt a desperate need for an anchor, something to calm my mind and keep my hands busy. I decided to return to the crafts my grandmother had taught me. I began knitting and crocheting again, this time with a renewed sense of purpose.
The simple act of creating something with my hands brought me immense peace. I made items for myself, but more importantly, I made them to share with others.
It was my way of bringing a bit of joy and comfort into a difficult time. Now, as the next generation of our children starts having babies, I find even more joy in crafting little treasures for them.
These pieces are more than just items; they are woven with love, hope, and the resilience I’ve discovered through my creative journey. I love sharing my work, not just as a showcase of skill, but as a testament to the therapeutic power of creativity.
It’s a reminder that even in the toughest times, we can find solace in the things we love and share that comfort with others.
This piece is Crocheted in Pink Camo. I loved it so much I made two blankets in two sizes for my granddaughter and this one for me 🥰
