I had a realization recently that I can’t stop thinking about.

AI does not have a nervous system.

It cannot regulate itself.

But it is learning from the patterns of human interaction.

Which means every time we engage with it, we bring our entire state of being into the exchange.

Our calm.
Our curiosity.
Our urgency.
Our fear.
Our care.

And that raises a question I’m genuinely curious about.

Something has been sitting with me lately.

For years I’ve taught nervous system regulation as a healing practice. A way to help people come back into their bodies and their lives.

But recently I’ve begun to see something bigger.

Artificial Intelligence is becoming a mirror of the collective mind. It reflects our questions, our fears, our hopes, and our stories almost instantly.

And it does not have a nervous system.

It relies on ours.

Which means the state we are in when we interact with technology matters more than we realize.

If we create from urgency and fear, we encode that into the systems shaping the future.
If we create from presence and care, we seed something very different.

We spend so much of our lives running from the parts of ourselves we think are ‘too much,’ ‘not enough,’ or just plain dark. We treat them like enemies to be defeated or secrets to be buried.

But in my work as a somatic practitioner, I’ve learned a different truth: that shadow isn’t an enemy. It’s a fragment of your original, essential self that was tucked away long ago just to keep you safe.
When we stop running and start looking,really looking, that ‘coal’ begins to transform. It’s a physiological reclamation. You aren’t fixing yourself; you are gathering the pieces of you that never actually left.

My latest blog, ’The Diamond in the Coal: Reclaiming Your Essential Self,’ is an invitation to stop the exhaustion of hiding and start the journey of returning.

We spend a massive amount of energy pretending the crack in our foundation is not there. But that crack is still there, shaping the way you walk, breathe, and love.

On this weeks blog, I am exploring shadow work as a physiological reclamation.

If we do not look at the parts of ourselves we neglect or avoid, those parts capture us. We build identities around fractures that could be mended.

But there is alchemy in the dark.

By simply being present with the ’coal’ of your shadow, the pressure of your awareness transforms it into a diamond. This is the courageous decision to stay with yourself, gather your scattered pieces, and return to your essential expression.

I would rather sit with you in the tension of the truth than the comfort of an illusion.

There is a specific kind of exhaustion that comes from not looking. We often think avoiding our ‘dark’ parts is self-protection, but the truth is: as long as we refuse to look at the shadow, it captures us.

Shadow work isn’t just a mental exercise, it’s a somatic reclamation. It’s the process of going back for the pieces of your essential self that you were taught to hide just to remain safe.

Is it a bad mood, or is it “Functional Freeze”?

Ever wake up feeling like life is stuck in grayscale? That quiet, heavy slowness isn’t a personal flaw; it’s information from your nervous system.

Most of the time, this “low for no reason” feeling is actually Functional Freeze: a mixed state where your body is pressing the gas and the brake at the same time. You’re functioning, but internally, you’re shut down.
