We serve just over 16,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties. Free diagnosis and assessment services are available to any person suspected of having a developmental disability, such as intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, or autism. To qualify for ongoing support and services, a person must be found to have a developmental disability which began before the age of 18 and is a substantial handicap.
Who We Are and What We Do: We are a private, non-profit corporation that contracts with the State of California to provide diagnostic, evaluation, case management, and early intervention services to people with developmental disabilities. We purchase services such as respite, out-of-home placement, adult day programs, transportation, behavior intervention, infant development services, clinical, and diagnostic services for people with developmental disabilities
CALIFORNIA EARLY START PROGRAM: We serve over 2000 children under age 3 and their families are served in VMRC’s Early Start Program which emphasizes family-focused, community based, coordinated care. VMRC collaborates with other agencies and the family as an integrated team. Eligibility criteria for the Early Start program: a child with a delay of 1/3 or more in one area of development (cognitive, social-emotional, adaptive, motor, communication); a child with established risk condition: a child at risk for developmental problems, due to birth issues or other factors.
