It’s National Deflection Week!

Observed annually during the third full week of July, National Deflection Week showcases the tremendous, inspirational, groundbreaking, and impactful work of deflection work happening in communities across the globe.

We're proud to be part of this movement through our partnership with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services, the Middlesex Sheriff's Office, the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health, and Vinfen. As members of the Middlesex Restoration Center Commission, we’re working to bring the Restoration Center of Greater Lowell to life, scheduled to open in 2026.

As we continue celebrating Disability Pride Month with Work Without Limits, read Meaghan's story about navigating workplace accommodations while maintaining a successful career as a healthcare professional:

The celebration continues!
Read how Meaghan navigated workplace accommodations and maintained a successful career as a healthcare professional as she became a person with a disability.

"In 2004, I began working as a registered nurse for Melrose Wakefield Hospital, part of Tufts Medicine. In 2017, I was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis. By 2020, I began to have difficulty walking, which marked a turning point in my professional life.
I was offered a Clinical Manager role that did not involve physical demands. The organization valued my contributions and supported my continued success." - Meaghan

Earlier this week, the UMass Chan Medical School community hosted a naming celebration event for the Paul J. DiMare Center.

The nine-story, 350,000-square-foot research building was named after Paul J. DiMare, a nationally known agricultural leader, philanthropist, and Massachusetts native who was committed to supporting health care and medical research. The $35 million gift from the Paul J. DiMare Foundation supports research into neurodegenerative and genetic diseases, especially ALS, and the recruitment of outstanding biomedical research faculty at all career stages at UMass Chan.
