Last year, we celebrated an incredible group of Nurses and Child Life Specialists who truly embodied what it means to be a Helpful Hero at Lurie Children’s. Someone who is compassionate, collaborative, and committed to making a difference both inside our walls and out in the community.

Transformative care through pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgery takes place every day at Lurie Children's Cleft Lip and Palate Repair Program. The Program is directed by Dr. Noopur Gangopadhyay with expertise from Division Head Dr. Arun Gosain, and the team also includes otolaryngologists (ENT), orthodontists, dentists, and other pediatric specialists to provide the full spectrum of care for patients. Last Thursday, we hosted our annual Run for Gus 5K Run/1 Mile Walk, presented by Deloitte along with the Young Associates Board. Thanks to the incredible community of participants, families, patients, volunteers, staff, and supporters, we’ve raised over $200,000 (and counting)!

At the heart of this event are the patients and families we walk and run for, like Nico. Just shy of his 4th birthday, Nico was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After a long surgery to remove a portion of the tumor, hospital stays, and inpatient rehab, Nico is now thriving on the road to a full recovery. Overwhelmed with gratitude for the care they received at Lurie Children’s, Nico’s family created Nico’s Neuro Nation. To honor the resources and the people that stood by them during the most critical moments of their lives, the family raised $58,103.21 to date – the highest fundraising family in the history of Run for Gus.
