A Periodontal Practice Offering Advanced Treatments

The goal of our practice is to help you achieve the best dental health possible. Our periodontal staff is dedicated to helping patients preserve their teeth through individualized treatments and personalized care. We provide a wide range of periodontal, dental implant, and cosmetic services, and we will work to develop a treatment plan that meet

s all of your individual needs. Your comfort and personal satisfaction are always of primary importance. For over 25 years the practice of Joseph R. Nemeth, D.D.S. & Associates has led the way toward excellence in periodontal care. Our office uses advanced technology that ranges from state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to therapeutic approaches that enhance the results of treatment and maximize patient comfort.

●In 1990 we became the first periodontal practice in the United States to use lasers in periodontics. Lasers provide tremendous patient benefits, and we now have four different kinds of lasers for patient care. Dental lasers can quickly perform certain procedures that once required more invasive, conventional surgery.

●In 1998 we became the first practice in Michigan to provide periodontal microsurgery. This expertise has helped us achieve excellent cosmetic results for our patients.

●Our practice uses high resolution microscopes that reveal bacteria associated with periodontal problems. We are proud to be one of only a small number of practices in Michigan to have the latest generation i-Cat Cone-Beam 3-D Dental Imaging Scanner.

●To the best of our knowledge, our office was the first periodontal practice in Michigan to use PRF material to enhance surgical outcomes.

●In 2014, Dr. Nemeth became the first periodontist in Michigan to be certified to perform the Pinhole Surgical Technique. Our entire staff is dedicated to assuring our patients’ comfort and relaxation in a friendly and pleasant environment. We work closely as a team with our referring dentists, but a referral by a dentist is not required for a visit to our office. Many patients come to us by word of mouth from friends and family who had a great experience at our office. If you would like to make an appointment at our office, please contact our periodontal staff to schedule an appointment at 248-357-3100. Most people think dentists and periodontists do the same thing, but they don’t.

A periodontist is a dental specialist focused on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum disease and the placement of dental implants.

We also specialize in treating gum recession, bone loss, and other issues that threaten the foundation of your teeth.

You should see a periodontist if you notice:

Persistent bad breath (even after brushing)

Red, swollen, or bleeding gums

Teeth that feel loose or shifting

Receding gums or “long teeth”

Pain when chewing or brushing

Deep pockets between your teeth and gums

Why wait until the damage is done?

Gum disease is silent, and early treatment is your best defense.

Missing a Tooth? Let’s Talk Solutions.

There are two trusted options to replace a missing tooth: a dental bridge or a dental implant.

A Bridge is often faster but relies on neighboring teeth for support. Meaning they’re filed down to hold the replacement tooth. It can work well, but may lead to bone loss and requires more long-term maintenance.

An Implant, on the other hand, acts like a natural tooth root. It’s placed directly into the jawbone, helps preserve bone, and doesn’t impact surrounding teeth. With proper care, it can last a lifetime.

Ready to explore which option is right for you?

The school year is starting, and that means it’s time to reset routines, including oral hygiene!

Between new schedules, early mornings, and after-school activities, brushing and flossing can fall off the radar.

But here’s the deal:
Cavities, gum inflammation, and bad breath don’t take a break.

Help your child start the year with confidence by getting back to the basics:
- Brush for 2 minutes, twice a day
- Floss once a day
- Cut back on sugary drinks and snacks
- Schedule a dental or gum check-up before fall sports or midterms take over

Did you know that diabetes and gum disease are closely linked, and that inflammation plays a role in both?

Here’s how it works:

- Gum disease can make it harder to control blood sugar, causing spikes and complications.
- At the same time, high blood sugar can weaken your immune response, making your gums more vulnerable to infection.

The result? A cycle that can damage both your oral and overall health if left untreated.

If you have diabetes, or are prediabetic, keeping your gums healthy isn’t optional. It’s essential.

Receding gums don’t just stay the same, they tend to get worse over time. One of the biggest culprits? Trauma to the gum tissue.

When bone loss or gum collapse affects your smile, it’s not just cosmetic, it can impact your ability to speak, chew, and feel confident.

This patient came to us with significant tissue and bone loss in the upper front area. Through ridge augmentation, we rebuilt the natural contour of their gum and jawline, creating a stronger foundation for restorations and a more seamless, natural-looking smile.

Want a Brighter Smile Without the Bleach?

Dr. Nemeth shares an easy, at-home tip to help reduce surface stains from coffee, wine, and more, no whitening strips needed.

Just dip your toothbrush in water, then a bit of baking soda, and gently brush once a week.

It’s effective for lifting stains and safe when done in moderation.

But remember, this isn’t a replacement for professional care.

Keep up with your dental checkups to make sure your smile stays healthy and bright!
