Medford Children's Therapy Nonprofit therapy clinic providing outpatient physical & occupational therapy services to children.

Medford Children’s Therapy exists to provide evidence-based and cutting-edge services to children and young adults with congenital and acquired neuromuscular disorders in order to improve their functional independence and maximize their quality of life regardless of their financial ability. At Medford Children’s Therapy, we are devoted to seeing that individuals with both acquired and congenital n

euromuscular disorders receive therapy services that are selected based on current knowledge of “best practice” for each client. We will continuously strive to meet this goal by seeking continuing education pertinent to our field and staying current with our professional literature

While we will primarily be treating children, it is our desire to ensure these children are provided services throughout their growth and development, and into adulthood. We will do this by assisting our clients throughout their transition from children’s therapy to adult care, aiding them in reaching their highest functional capacity and providing the education and resources necessary for them to manage their physical fitness as independently as possible. In addition to empowering individuals to maximize their ability, we aspire to foster a relationship with other health professionals in the area as well as sponsor workshops and lectures by educators in therapeutic techniques.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our dear founder of Medford Children's Therapy (MCT), Deirdre Nixon, passed away on June 24th after a long battle with cancer. She was an amazing therapist and friend to everyone she met. She dedicated her time and knowledge to MCT and Neuro for over 26 years. She will be dearly missed by clients and staff.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. For anyone wishing to make a contribution in Deirdre's name, the family is asking in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Medford Children's Therapy to honor her legacy.

🎉 Happy International Play Therapy Week! 🌈
Today, we're sharing some tips for parents who want to foster attachment through play. Read below for some further explanations or additional tips!
💙 Watch and listen to your child, rather than assume. Be open to and encourage any engagement that they offer.
🧡 If they are resistant, fade your presence by speaking less, moving further away, or making your movements and play "smaller".
💙 Use "Yes, and...", which starts first with listening to your child's idea and then saying yes by adding to the already established idea.
🧡 Make bedtime and wake up routines playful to help your child participate in a more relaxed, calm manner.
💙 Give them piggy back rides or create mini obstacle courses down the hall during transitions.
🧡 Make (silly) faces with the food on the plate when preparing snacks!
💙Get out of your comfort zone and see if any creative silliness entices your child to join in with you more willingly even and especially during chores!
🧡 Improv can offer one of the best tools to promote attachment through play! Allow creation, creativity, and connection to happen together through collaboration where you build upon each other's ideas for play.
💙 Follow your kiddo's lead, allowing for hard boundaries when needed (such as safety concerns!).
🧡 Make mental notes of subject areas that they appear hungry to learn more about so that you can help educate around later in the day or week.
