Our Intensive Residential Treatment Services (IRTS) program employs a dedicated team to give our clients the treatment, coping skills and resources they need on their journey to self-sufficiency. But there’s one staff position that’s especially unique: our peer support specialists.
These team members share a lived experience with mental illness with our clients, and they use their own stories of recovery to help inspire our clients and give them hope.
Learn more about Danny, one of our peer support specialists, over on the Guild blog, linked in the comments.

"We’re still here. And just because our children aren’t doesn’t mean we can’t talk about them and share them. Guild has helped me do that and helped me believe my life is still worth living."
Every client's story is different, but one thing is universal: Guild helps give them hope. Lisa turned to our employment services program to help overcome her fear of rocking what little stability she'd found in the fragile period after her son died.
"I’ve gotten so much more than just a job by partnering with Guild. They helped me believe I was on the right path," she said. "All you gotta do is get up and see where the day takes you. And if it’s not taking you to a place you want to be, you can always go back home and try again tomorrow."

Going to the Minnesota State Fair this year? If you're a person who deals with anxiety, the prospect of large crowds and other fair logistics might have you hesitating. Thankfully, it's possible to visit the fair *and* keep your emotional well-being in mind! Here are a few tips:
1. Consider other modes of transportation. Waiting in traffic and worrying about where to park can bring out negative emotions in anyone! Mass transit can get you there faster and has a designated drop-off area for easy arrival and departure. The State Fair Express Bus service even offers a direct bus ride to the fairgrounds for a small fee from neighboring suburbs. Let someone else worry about the driving!
2. Come up with a plan in advance. If there are particular exhibits you want to hit or foods you want to try, it can help to use one of the state fair maps ahead of time and plot out your visit. Making decisions in the moment, when you're already hot and tired from moving around, can be stressful. This way, you have a general idea of what's coming up.
3. Take breaks. Even the best laid plans get turned upside down sometimes. If a food line is WAY too long, if you get tired sooner than expected, or if you're just not feeling it anymore, it's okay to say so! Find a quiet spot to rest when you need to, or bail early entirely if you're feeling overwhelmed.

You may have heard that the MN Department of Human Services has requested to end the statewide Housing Stabilization Services program. We want to reassure you that our Housing Stabilization Program remains open and continues to serve clients.
Prior to this announcement, our team had already started shifting our focus to a different service model to ensure we can provide the support our community needs. We'll share more updates as our program changes.

“What inspires me most about the work I do at Guild is seeing clients and staff recognize the talents and strengths they possess. I prefer to think of our work not as a 'helping field' as much as an 'empowering field,'" shares Kierstin Munn, a clinical supervisor trainee at Guild. "I see people every day who possess so much strength and capability, and I absolutely love capitalizing on that and encouraging others to see it in themselves!”
At Guild, we share Kierstin's passion for empowering others. If you're a professional who wants to help foster the strengths of those around you, we want to meet you. Join our team! Learn more and apply today: https://guildservices.org/careers/

Had a great time with the team volunteering at Bridging MN! We spent the day loading trucks for deliveries and inspecting sheet sets. It was a fantastic team-building event, and we highly recommend it!
We're so grateful for our partnership with Bridging. They provide our clients with furniture, which helps turn their new houses into homes. Thank you for all you do!

Over the past few months, we’ve been sharing regular updates about what’s happening at the legislative level, including how proposed federal and state policies would affect the clients we serve. In follow up to these updates, we want to share what we know about the legislation that was passed at the federal level last month and how it might impact our clients and our work at Guild. In shaping our organization’s Remembrance Ritual, our team wanted to promote a space intentionally designed to honor the loss of Guild clients, invite vulnerability, and help us heal in community. We asked ourselves: What does it look like to structure something that helps people safely access their emotions?
That led us to build the experience around four pillars: invitation, remembrance, community, and epilogue. Read more over on our blog: bit.ly/4nU4nff
Grief can be incredibly isolating, and it doesn’t show up the same way for everyone. Sometimes, it’s tears. Sometimes, it’s silence. But one thing is true for all of us: Grief is part of the human experience. It connects us all.

We did it! 🙌 Our collective advocacy paid off. MN lawmakers passed a bill securing nearly $8.3 million in funding for Employment Support Programs (ESP) and Individual Placement and Support (IPS) programs, preserving vital employment services for mental health recovery through 2027!
Thank you to these incredible legislators for their work:
Senator Zaynab Mohamed (Senate Chief Author)
Sen. Bobby Joe Champion (Senate Jobs Committee Chair)
Senator Rich Draheim (Senate Job Committee Republican Lead & Co-Author)
State Representative Kari Rehrauer (House Chief Author)
Representative Dave Baker (House Republican Workforce Committee Chair)
Representative Dave Pinto (House DFL Workforce Committee Chair)

Guild’s roots go back to the 1970s. In the 70s, Hastings State Hospital closed and The Guild of Catholic Women, a volunteer organization, stepped forward to provide housing for individuals leaving the hospital with no place to go.
In 1990, The Guild of Catholic Women created Guild Incorporated. Guild Incorporated became a separate, not-for-profit organization that continued to provide the services that were originally offered by The Guild of Catholic Women. Guild Incorporated, while working from the history of The Guild of Catholic Women, was no longer affiliated with the volunteer organization that paved the way.
Guild serves Minnesota communities by providing quality, cost-effective services for those living with mental illness or experiencing long-term homelessness. Our services aim to prevent homelessness, unemployment, the use of high-cost emergency room and hospitalization services, and involvement in the criminal justice system. Those outcomes are significant social issues that emerge when individuals with mental illness go without the treatment and services they need to heal and stabilize.
In 2020, Guild Incorporated became just Guild. Guild maintains the organization’s rich history and appreciation for those that came before while looking forward to a future of innovation, expansion, and quality service provision.
Our rich history and current position as an industry leader situate us well for the future. Our three main goals are:
Expand access and grow our sustainable services.
Strengthen our financial health and independence.
Serve our communities as the provider of choice.
As we expand our reach, we will stay resolute in our commitment to meeting unmet needs, as identified by the communities we serve. We are excited and ready to bring our model of integrated care to more individuals and communities in need.
