The first BAYADA Regatta took place in the summer of 1981 on the banks of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA, where the race is still held today. The BAYADA Regatta was the first regatta to focus solely on adaptive rowing, and it’s open to athletes with physical disabilities from around the globe. lphia Adaptive Rowing (PAR) meetings and was inspired by the courage and fearlessness that the rowers displayed. As his relationship with the club developed, he decided that BAYADA would sponsor the annual regatta that PAR hosts. More than 30 years later, the BAYADA Regatta has grown steadily, becoming one of the largest all-adaptive rowing events in the world. Competitors from across the country—and as far away as Europe and Africa—have come to Philadelphia to compete in various adaptive rowing events. Using single and double Alden Ocean Shells that have been adapted for stability, athletes train throughout the year to prepare for this special event. The participating athletes may have a number of physical disabilities, including blindness, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, paraplegia, or quadriplegia. The BAYADA Regatta accommodates all levels of athletes and abilities, from beginners to Paralympians. Rowers are classified according to standards developed by the International Rowing Federation (FISA). Open to the public, the event is free and staffed by volunteers. Welcome to the 2021 BAYADA REGATTA! Yes, we are holding the event VIRTUALLY on ergometers this year! Any adaptive or pararower can compete - from anywhere (no able-bodied rowers). All we ask is that you row your 2k time between Saturday, August 21st through Saturday, September 4th, 2021!

The event is FREE and open to ANY adaptive rower ANYWHERE (again, no able-bodied participants). Challenge your rowing program, compete against other clubs, and feel free to pass along the information to other adaptive rowers! There are t-shirts for all eligible participants and medals to the top 3 finishers in each event. You can be a FISA or USA classified rower, or SELF-CLASSIFY in many different categories (fixed seat, sliding seat, veteran, ID, AK, SA, etc - details are within the registration).

Row a 2k between August 4th and September 4th!!!! Take a picture of your time that includes the date 2000m distance and your time (from the Memory setting of your C2 monitor preferably)

Mark your calendar for a VIRTUAL ZOOM Awards Ceremony on Friday, September 17th from 7:00 - 8:00 EDT. The link for the awards will be sent after the event is concluded.

The 39th Annual BAYADA Regatta is going virtual!

Dust off your ergometers and row a 2k to compete against other adaptive and pararowers across the country! The link to upload your time will open August 21st but you can submit your 2k time from Saturday, August 21st through Saturday, September 4th!

This event is open for para and adaptive rowers in the following categories only please (depending upon number of entries):
- FISA/USA pararowing classified rowers: PR1, PR2, PR3-PI, and PR3-VI
- Fixed seat adaptive rowers: non-classified PR1 and PR2
- Sliding seat adaptive rowers: non-classified PR3-PI and PR3-VI
- Open adaptive rowers: PR3-II1, PR3-IIDS, PR3-II3 (PR3-RA), PR3-Military (PTSD/TBI), PR3-SA, PR3-AK, and PR3-GD

Hello BAYADA Regatta Rowers and Volunteers!

Due to low numbers and the increase in the Delta variant of COVID-19, we regret to inform you that the on-water events on Saturday, August 21st have been canceled.

But do not let that dampen your mood! We are pivoting the 39th BAYADA Regatta this year to a virtual event! We will have both on-water and ergometer events for you and encourage those from your clubs to attend! More information will be coming soon about races, and how to submit times for events. We are even planning a virtual awards ceremony and still planning to have t-shirts and medals for those who participate!

If your club has hosted virtual events, we welcome your ideas to make this FUN, EXCITING, COMPETITIVE. We will keep the spirit of the BAYADA Regatta going strong! Please post your ideas below or email us!

Again, we are saddened to have to shift from seeing everyone on August 21st to a virtual competition, but the race committee felt this was the best way to keep everyone safe and healthy. We are not going to this deter us! We WILL still have the 39th BAYADA Regatta, just virtually!

Hello BAYADA Regatta Supporters!

We're BAAAACK!!!

The COVID-19 pandemic may have kept us off the water last year, but things have been improving so we are back at it! The 39th Annual BAYADA Regatta is scheduled for Saturday, August 21, 2021.

At this time, we are limiting spectators and reducing the number of events, but we are planning to have ON WATER racing and, of course, beautiful weather!

Registration has been streamlined using a Google form so register as soon as possible so we can get the best count for races, t-shirts, medals, etc.
