Eyedeal Wellness

Eyedeal Wellness The eye is the window to the body. Many diseases have an ocular manifestation. Nutrition/lifestyle 🔑 The eye has been dubbed "the window to our soul."

Quite literally, the eye is the window to our health status. The eye is the only place blood vessels can be viewed non-invasively. Careful examination of ocular structures may reveal elevated cholesterol levels, diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disease, and MS...just to name a few. Routine eye health examinations should be considered an important part of prevention and maintaining optimal wellness. Dr. Laura Chonko, O.D. & Associates provide primary eye care.

What is HOMA-IR? It's the Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance. You can calculate yours if you know your fasting blood sugar and fasting insulin levels. If your doctor isn't ordering your fasting insulin he/she should be! It's an inexpensive test and you can't fully assess metabolic health without knowing if you're insulin resistant or not.

High HOMA-IR points to insulin resistance. Find out what it is, why doctors test it and how to improve it here.

Statins used as primary prevention of heart attacks have very week data associations. Statins males who have already had a heart attack is a different scenario than someone who was not had a myocardial infarction. Statin risks include increased risk of developing diabetes and cancer, and now, according to this study, glaucoma. Please evaluate pros and cons of statin therapy carefully before you are put on them for life. With algorithmic medicine, it seems many providers are treating numbers on a page rather than patients as individuals.

Conclusions from the study:
Statin use was associated with increased glaucoma likelihood in the overall adult AoU population with hyperlipidemia, in individuals with optimal or high LDL-C levels, and in individuals 60-69 years old. Findings suggest that statin use may be an independent risk factor for glaucoma, which may furthermore be affected by one’s lipid profile and age.

To investigate associations between statin use and glaucoma in the 2017-2022 All of Us (AoU) Research Program.

On the QBC podcast this week we have Dr. Valerie Giangrande

Dr. Giangrande is an optometrist, Integrative Holistic Nutrition Health Coach, and a graduate of the Applied Quantum Biology Certification. And she's one of the very few eye doctors who are applying Quantum/Circadian principles to ocular health!

Check out Episode 080, “How Our Eyes Run Our Biology"

"What I love about the eyes is that they are window into the body, in the sense that everything is connected. The eyes are an extension of the skin, they have mucus membranes, there's nerve tissue, it's brain tissue, it's cardiovascular tissue, it's lymph tissue. It's everything altogether."
