This year’s theme is “Come tell a mom she’s doing a great job” — because every drop, every latch, every snuggle matters.
Whether it’s one day, one week, one year, or anything in between…
💖 Let’s celebrate the love, effort, and strength it takes to nourish a baby.

Does your babies latch look like that? Are they facing you belly to belly? When trying to latch are you leading babies chin to the breast? When the latch doesn’t feel good these are some of the things I’m looking for when observing you and baby feed. Sometimes it’s as simple as a positional adjustment. If you’re questioning if it’s a good latch, or if it doesn’t feel good. I can help with that. How long did it take you and baby to figure out latching?

May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month. My story is different it didn’t start with a new life being born but with a life ending. For 3 years after my daughter’s passing I was a highly functional depressed person only I didn’t know it. I got out of bed and went to work because I had to, bills had to paid, food needed to be bought and I still had a toddler I needed to raise. I’m not the person I was before and I won’t ever be her again. My depression and anxiety reared its head while I was battling my insurance company for treatment of my This picture was the day I finally said it out loud. I’d left my house for the first time in 4 weeks. It would take me another 6 weeks before I went back to Theraphy and 4 months before I started medication. Today I proudly share that I’m a medicated momma with anyone I can, why because I never know who needs to hear it and see it. Especially being a woman of color. While we’ve made strides with taking care of ourselves it’s still a very big thing in our communities. In a time where we are supposed to be our happiest yet we aren’t and that’s ok. Support and Resources are available. Safe spaces are available. To the partners, friends and loved ones be aware of the signs and love them enough to be brave and gentle in getting them help.

The right size fl**ge makes ALL the difference. This momma came into group saying “I don’t know pumping just isn’t working anymore, I’m not getting anything”

Turns out she was using a size 17mm fl**ge. Her ar**la was going through the fl**ge, which it shouldn’t. I sized her to 13mm and then we tested it.

The end result is what you’re viewing. She pumped this from 1 breast in less than 5 minutes.

Got questions about pumping output?

“I’m drinking enough water but my milk supply isn’t…..”

First let me say this: Breastmilk is made from blood. You do not need to drink half your body weight or 100ozs of water a day to increase your milk supply. Nor do you need Gatorade or a Pink drink.

I see this a lot in FB Groups, TikTok, and Instagram especially under videos where a parent with an over supply is doing a pump & pour or bagging milk and every single time I cringe. Why?

Because I’ve sat with those parents who feel inadequate of the milk supply that they have. Who’s looking for that one thing they haven’t done to help them and it’s hard to see.

Parents with perceived or actual milk supply that doesn’t meet what baby needs daily will try just about anything and I mean anything. From different pumps, to power pumping multiple times a day, Oreos, coconut oil and a bunch of other stuff. And then when they finally make an appointment after trying it all when their lactation consultant visit is their last Hail Mary. Sometimes they are expecting me to suggest a supplement. Instead they get:

1. Tell me about a typical day for you?
2. Are you eating? What are you eating?
3. What does rest look like for you?
4. What’s your current stress level and how are you managing it?
5. How often are you feeding your baby? And yes pumping counts as feeding your baby?
6. We review your entire medical history. Included but not limited to:
7. Age of your first period? Heavy flow?
8. How long it took you to get pregnant?
9. Review latest full panel of labs and order new ones if necessary.
10. A complete breast/chest exam.
11. Oral exam on baby plus a review of reflexes.
12. Feeding observation, pump observation and fitting.

And so much more, why because all of this is necessary to determine if there is a supply issue, to get to the cause of the issue and ultimately resolve or make it better. Your bodies ability to make milk is determined by so much more than water.
